View Full Version : MAS Diagnostic tools?

Is there a diagnostic tool that can read the voltage of the MAS sensor? Does it have to be connected to the car, or can I pull it out and use the testing equipment?

Today, I pulled out my MAS and tried to clean it out. I didnt have the proper "torx star" piece to take out the wire, but I was able to slightly clean the wire by using Q-tips. I havent taken my car for a spin yet, so I cannot determine if the cleaning helped. I was hoping to test the voltage running through the wire to see if it is heating up properly. I dont want to buy a new one, if I dont know 100% it is not working properly.

Ok, I just got back from driving about 60 miles back and forth, and my car feels like it runs alot harder than it used to. Maybe I am just wishful thinking, but my car really has more kick when I hit the accelerator. Before cleaning, there was a slight lag in power, but now seems to have disappered. Now, if I can test out my MAS to make sure it works properly. Note that my MAS wire was slightly dirty and some residue from the wire did come off when I cleaned it. Did it make a difference? Who knows? It feels like it though. Maybe after running my car tomorrow, I can make a better observation.

A simple multimeter will do. But I ll have to look up the factory specs for you on Monday. You can always subcribe to ALLDATA for $25/year per car. If you works on your car alot, it is worth the money. It has specs and 'how to' pretty much to do anything. ALLDATA is used by most independant shops. :)

Is this the MAS wire?

or is it this thing:

The thread linked above said the second is the MAS wire, is that so?

CKlasse, I was thinking about subscibing to ALLDATA but probably would not use it enough to justify the cost. If you can get the spec for me, that would be great. Thanks.

Den,

You check it from the wire outlet. I ll see if I can get more details by Monday. :)
