I don't know if this forum is where this should go, so move at will!

I was gonna post this a while back, but I think the site was down or something... That Craig's List posting reminded me....

Thought you might be interested in this, from the AMG forum: C55 upgrade (http://www.amg-owners-club.org/board/en/wbb2/thread.php?threadid=1697&sid=)

here are very speciall Information about the C 55 regarding the parts that are changed during the upgrade:

- Cylinder head, Crankcase, Cylinderhead gasket: these iterns have all been taken from the 5.0 litre engine M113.961
- crankshaft, Pistons, Connecting rods: These are all new components manufactured by AMG
- Camshafts: The M113.983 has built-up camshafts with cams specially designed for the Engine
- Valves,Valve seats are taken from the engine M113.961
- Fuel System: Like the M113.944 ( C43),the M113.983 is equipped with microprocessor-controlled fuel injection ( Bosch HMS 7.0)
Deviations from the standart system are as follows. New controller with modified data settings for extra power output and optimum exhaust emissions.
- new automatic transmission
- model 722.636 ( C43- 722.631 ) AMG has also modified to cope with the extra power

Rear axle general:
- new rear axle centrepiece. i = 2.82 , with new drive shaft.
- new rear axle wheel flange
- Propeller shaft
The C 55 has a new propeller shaft with 4-arm flanges, PCD = 110 mm
- Floorpan:
The floorpan of the C 55 ( under the rear seats) has had to be modified in order to accommodate the larger rear axle centrepiece

-Exhaust system:
Except a new middle siliencer and a new tail siliencer, the C 55 uses the same exhaust system as the C 43.

The intrument cluster bears the AMG logo and a 300km/h scale card in " ivory " at last

Technical Data:
Engine:
Nominal output in accordance with 88/195 EC : KW 255 / 5500 rpm, torgate Nm 510 between 3000 - 4300 rpm.
Maximum speed: 6000 rpm
Performance:
Acceleleration through the gear 0 -- 100 Km/h:
C 55 Saloon- 5,5 s
C 55 Estade_ 5,7 s
Max speed 250 Km/h (electronically limited)

A Vmax derestriction and 18" wheels are available on request.

- And here are the prices from somebody who called GDR from oz:

It will cost me about Euro 24,000 for the basic conversion and extra Euro 1,475 for VMax de-restriction.
Plus of course the optional 18 inch wheel set with tyres about Euro 4,000, and not forgetting the cost of shipping both ways to Affalterbach about Euro 3,000.
So as i see it the total cost will be close to Euro 34,000 for the whole job including all the extras.

- In other words..not cheeeep

Just in case you were wonderin... :D

Greg,

So C43 owners have an option to upgrade their tranny to this 722.636 model? Just wondering...

Hmm, not really sure... I just reposted this from the AMG Owners group (see link above) I don't really know all that stuff...
but I am guessing it is for the extra load put on by the 5 litre...

Edit - Ken, to answer your question, I don't believe it was an option at 1st sale, if that was what you were asking...

I am sure there is no way MB is going to give you 'optional better tranny.' :) I was just wondering if I am to buy a C43 which is known for premature tranny failure, I might have the option to replace it with a better tranny.

We built a C 55 out of a 1999 C 43. It has substantial modification and makes 510 hp at the wheels!

We use the stock transmission with two external trans coolers. This car drag races constantly.... We just went 11.54 @ 120+mph.

So far so good on the tranny.

Isnt your C43 supercharged? What is your opinion on the performance of the s/c?

What type of tranny cooler did you set up?

Thanks

Those are some pretty sweet numbers!
