and let the supercharger run at all times. They HAD to put the clutch on there for safety (traction) issues, cuz there are tons of cars with twin screw and whipple type supercharges tht run the sc at all times. I have a Kenne Bell whipplecharger on my 95 mustang www.yellow95.corral.net and I love the torque i get off the line. I just wish I could bypass that clutch on my C230K.

Just to clarify a couple of points.
The idea of the clutch on the S/C is to have the "power on demand".
When you're just cruising, it would take a lot of power to drive the supercharger, hence your fuel mileage would deteriorate.
Also the wear factor on the S/C would be increased, i.e. much shorter lifespan.
Running the S/C constantly is just a cheaper ( in the short run ) way of doing things.
When Ford produced the super charged Thunderbird, it also had an electric clutch.
Ford's engineers determined that it takes as much as 30 hp, just to drive the S/C.
Hope you feel better now. ;)
