    flywheel

    hi there
    i own a w201 with m111 engine 2.0 turbo and 5 speed gearbox
the flywheel is dual mass and i have some clutch issues....
so i saw here that some people have convert the dual mass to solid, does anyone knows any shop to have solid flywheel in stock or has the dimmensions of the flywheel to reduce my work days of this project?
    thanks

    Hi,
Could you please post some pics of your W201?specificly the engine bay!.
The dimensions on the flywheel are important and one wrong measurment could mean remaking it a second time so obtaining dimensions without seeing your original would be risky even if its the generic M111 flywheel.

    Cheers

    Hi,
the dimensions of the clutch will be generic, its the flywheel dimensions like the centre location diameter and depth, keyway, pilot bearing depth and trigger pickup mounting orientation that need to be accurate,it is likely you will need to remove your flywheel to be sure about these angles/dimensions.

    Thanks for the pic,
    Paul

    Np!,
Also be careful how much lighter if any you make the new flywheel, the M111 runs a heavy flywheel to remove unwanted harmonics/vibration through all components!

    Cheers

yes youre right i dont mind the weight as much to limit the vibration.
how much did cost your flywheel?to know where i am going.....

Agreed^^...and it still doesnt run as well as it should even after having it machined last time it was out,i reckon that below average spec pressure plate doesnt give uniform clamping or the fork and bearing are not seated parallel as there was a hot spot area on one side and nothing on the other.

Prices would vary alot between countries,if you have the tools you could draw it to scale and get quotes to have it made!,i dont think i have my drawings anymore, however there was some my engineers did off the drawings i gave them...this was just for the lathe though.

A good idea would be to not use the original mercedes pressure plate design, instead use a pressure plate that does not need stand-off's on the flywheel, this means you can use a larger selection of pressure plates,if you have a local race clutch supplier contact them first for advice on custom setup's.

    cheers,
    Paul

get a sprung center clutch plate, and get one that is strong but designed for street use otherwise it can be a pain in the ass when you get your girl to sober drive

lmao, yeh g/f's and heavy duty clutchs

If you can use a full faced clutch it will be much easier to manage(especially in reverse),theres really no need to use puck unless your running massive Hp.

Edit: oh yeh good point,as logan said you will need to get a sprung centre hub on your new clutch as the mercedes plate is solid due to the dual mass flywheel acting as the spring, this will need to be considered when you build the flywheel so there is sufficient room for the springs either inside the pressure plate or inside the flywheel.
