Any check engine light indicator? If so, do you know the codes.

Check the park indicator. Maybe the car thinks it is gear... Put the key in run the shift selector thru all the gears and back to park. Then try again

aren't C250's diesel? you mentioned heater plugs.

    does sound like a battery.

Bigger question. You had it down for some "much needed TLC." What did you do? It worked before you did it, and didn't work afterward. Just a wash/wax/interior detail? Did you do anything under the hood?

also, jump starting them is not bad for them. if I had a dime for everytime I've had to jump start my 94 C280... Anyway, no problems ever from jumpstarting or using it to jumpstart someone else. 12 years and counting.

Have you checked the OVP? I'm pretty sure the diesels still have them. It's that little box by the ECU connectors. Has a tiny glass door on top with a fuse underneath it. Turn the key to the ON position, give the OVP a good whack. If you hear the pumps and other things start to make buzzing noises and come to life, then you need a new OVP.

if that's true, that's something I had no idea about. Hmmm...

Have you checked the fuel pump relay? On gas models (pre or post facelift) it's in the trunk by the battery and fuses. Green little box relay with a fuse on it. There's a way you can yank it and use a piece of wire to connect 2 of the leads to see if it sends power to the fuel pump. Not sure which 2 leads those are...

I'm a bit old school when it comes to diesels: 77 300D, 84 190D. The old diesels never had a fuel pump like the gas engines do. There were 3 things needed for the engine to run: air, compression, fuel. Man I miss that car....

Chrisy mentioned that the lights and stuff are working now the battery is charged. The fuel pump (if it exists) wouldn't stop the car from turning over. The battery is good, key fob is good, transmission is in Park or Neutral, and the engine won't even crank.
Try arming the alarm and then disarming it.
if still no good, look to the starter.
ignition lockout on the side of the tranmission a distant 3rd.
beyond here is bad thoughts only.

car going to auto spark, know something of cars but mercs are all new to me. will check all the above tomorrow hopefully it works though. havent heard of the ignition lockout what is this?

My apologies. I should have referred to it as a starter lockout switch instead. Basically it's what I was asking you to test by running the car thru the gears and back before.
