Ahhh the 97 is a great year. Its semi updated. And the last year of one of the best engines ever made. 100k miles is still young on that car!

"replaced head gasket @88K"? - Are you certain it's not the valve cover gasket?
What's up with that? Engine must have been running pretty hot for a long time to cause that.

Nevertheless, great to hear you're at 100k miles.

My c280 is at 252k, and my c43 is at 242k. Both still have plenty of fight in them--especially the c43.

Waw that's crazy! Any major repair you had to do? Who's got the highest mileage 230k on here? Cuz I know the 280s last forever

w124 are tanks! my dad had a diesel in Romania that had like 300k miles on it. it seems that our model was the last one built to last.

there are a few members who would vocally disagree with you (too bad most of them aren't around anymore).

In my list of top 3 cars ever built, in order: w123, w124, and w202. The w202 is not far behind the w124. I've owned all 3 and can't bring myself to get rid of any of them. But, my favorite of the bunch is my first beloved w202. I bought it with 14k miles on it in 1999 and it's sitting in the driveway right now with 252k miles on it, all put there by me. Only reason I've temporarily retired her to drive my C43 is because the m104 sprung an oil leak that coats the exhaust and thus creates bellowing smoke underneath it. Keep in mind, my w124 has the same engine and the same oil leak.

i do see what your saying, although it was these cars/w210 that killed the MB reputation. and the w204's are meant to be good cars (only time will tell) which leaves only the w203 too be the black sheep? the w211 is meant to be a good car too

but with ~250k miles on your cars i do see why you're so fond of them. if it were not for MB replacing some much on these cars under warranty even after it expired half these cars wouldn't be even on the road. its funny tho, go to 190rev and they'll tell you the build quality on the 202 is absolutely disgusting

I think low mileage is something to be proud of also. My car is over three times as old as my family's cars and still has similar or lower mileage.

actually I drove the car to mechanic ,temp never went above normal ,drove it get oil change ,before that I kept getting low coolant light , coolant kept going missing ,was not leaking ,when mechanic took the oil out ,he found the coolant and oil mix ,recommended head gasket replacement and I got it done with few other things.

My c280 went to the dealership once for a new maf. I vowed it would never go to a shop again. It hasn't. Records on my c43 show it had nothing replaced under warranty also. I won't get into fanboy antics, as I think w201s are great too. But the w202 was the last MB to be designed and built with an unlimited budget. The w210 was the first car under their new cost cutting measures. Aside from that, pretty much every car built from 2000 to 2008 is supposed to be a massive piece of shit too. I also hear the w204 is back to the old ways of development/design/production. Time will tell.

But, that's why people often call the w202 the last real mb. My 124 has more class, my 123 is a rolling tank, and my 202 is the better all around car.

That's the way I felt about my W201. The 202, not so much. I will have another 201, or maybe some flavor 124 someday.

The 500E (W124) is the one to have as part of your garage collection.

No way man I'd much rather have less than 100k. I would prbly do some mods on the engine but I'm kinda hesitant at 150k..

build quality is just as good on the 202 as on the 201-124. And the m104 engine will last forever (c280/c36/e320/e36 e320ce etc) the 203 and 210 suck but still if you invest enough money in it you will love them.
