Solution to my P1444 code problem

I have been having a recurring P1444 code on my 1996 C280. Well we finally got to the bottom of it - see photos. The culprit was a 5" long rubber hose going between the purge valve and the Diagnostic Module sensor. (It is shown marked in yellow in the Emission system diagrams) Both are located near the windshield washer reservoir. My sharp-eyed mechanic located it after running the engine and doing a smoke test at the same time. He caught sight of a bit of smoke coming from a crack in the hose connecting the Diagnostic Module sensor and the purge valve. Since changing out the hose, the CEL has not reappeared.
I hope this might help others who have this pita code and are looking for the way to stop it. In New York, a small crack in a rubber hose that causes codes will prevent you from getting an inspection sticker. I really hope this helps people who might have this condition to get to the bottom of the problem quickly, and at small cost.
