Nice!
Any chance you could post the maker and part number?
Thanks

the ones I got were 79degrees. the only 80 degrees thermostats are for V8's, which are longer in length, and should not be used in I6's.Originally posted by omeyhomey
its a 80C thermostat from another benz model, i believe it was either a 202 or a S500, i forget which. same concept can be applied to 202s, fine a lower temp 202 thermostat, they are all interchangable

call me stupid, but i don't get it...how does the temp gauge make the car run cooler?? :bored: and if it works...i need it for my car
normal stat opens at 87c this one is 79c which means it opens at 79c, and by open I mean let the coolant cool, at least that's what I think happens, makes sense to me

the purpose of this mod is to lower the cooland temp, thus lowering the engine's running temp, which yields longer engine life and a bit higher perfromance output of the engine in two ways:Originally posted by OCKlasse

1. it decreases the chance of detonation in the cylinders, thus allowing higher timing advance
2. the intake air is cooler which increases performance by further decreasing detonation tendencies and by feeding the engine with a slightly cooler/denser air.

DO you guys know which Part Number and Thermostat will work on a V-8, 113 engine to get the 79-80C temp.?
Thanks,
Jeff

the thermostat for your car comes as an assembly with the housing, the ones we are talking about are just thermostats, so it wont fit.Originally posted by speedybenz

Be aware that the electric fan set point did not change and it is above the full open temp of the original thermostate.
In hot weather it will still go to the set point temp ??95 C.
The engine temp will flactuate between the thermostate open temp and the fan set point.
Large temp variation are not so good for the engine.
(expansion contraction). It is best to lower the electric fans set poin as well.
Thanks
How would you go about doing that?Originally posted by mercedesturbo

Very complicated. You have to fool the computer and make him think the temp is higher.Originally posted by smOKeSILVER13

In any case I see your car is 1999 c280 and I assume it is 203 body (V6) and not a 202 ?
thats what I did, I had a electric thermoswitch that was set a around 82C, and engine temp never exceeded that point, even in the hot, humid hawaiian traffic jams.Originally posted by mercedesturbo
