    Unresponsive gas pedal

Alright so every now and then when I'm idling at a red light and then push on the gas once it turns green I get absolutely zero response from the engine. I'm either forced to take my foot off the gas and wait for the car to start rolling on its own and then add gas or push down to the kick-down and bring up my foot before the car revs too high. This problem is super annoying and potentially dangerous. I was wondering if anyone knew the potential cause. I don't think it's the MAF because I've already changed it twice in the past two years. This problem doesn't happen at every red light, but my car will have its days. It's a 1995 c280 with 260,000 miles.
