You should not have to pay for someone else to sponsor you. Typically, the sponsorship process involves you making a pitch to a company as to why you'd make a good sponsored car, then typically, you either get a full or partial sponsorship.
Full sponsorships entail you promising a certain number of shows, impressions or whatever, and in exchange you show their product, put on a sticker, whatever
Partials often mean that you get to puchase their product at a price that is typically below wholesale. And in exchange you promise to do X shows, showcase their product, etc.
I'm not a big fan of this $89 ap fee to get your foot in the door of a sponsorship. Perhaps it really is just a show of willingness to invest in your own show car, but typically you can do the same thing by showing how much work you've already put into a car, and how well thought out your pitch is.
I can pretty much bet, that any of the big "show guns" did not pay an $89 sponsorship fee to get their sponsorships.
If you can thread the needle... and if your drive can lead to Pole Position today, history may hold a place for you tomorrow.
