    tape deck gonna wearout?

Currently im using my ipod shuffle with a Panasonic tape adaptor in my car....the sound is very good and crisp and goes louder than any other source (radio/cd) because the vol on the ipod is raised while the H/U's vol is lower.

Id like to keep using this but will it in time wear out my tape deck since the tape is always turning? Its used everytime the car is driven. I also keep the heads clean.

yeah, it will wear out your tape deck quicker, but, on the other hand, it's nothing to worry about within the next couple of years (depending on amount of time in your car). With your tape deck going, it just means that your player is working at full speed all the time. It never slows down, like it would using a regular tape (or stops to change direction)

Mars, how many tape decks have you worn out? Could you decribe how the use pattern differs between using a tape deck adapter vs. playing tapes all the time?

I'm not quite sure I understand why a deck would wear out faster with an adaptor vs. playing tapes for the same amount of listening time.

Maybe cut you down from 20 years of life to 19.7 years assuming its run 24/7 the adapter is just like a tape..no worse no better.

You can always send it out for referb to the guy who rebuilds decks (I posted the link in another thread.)

FWIW I run a deck adapter in my 93 mazda... after 5 years of use, the adapter is shot but not the deck.

Do the heads of the deck stay clean with the use of adaptor being played only vs a real tape?

depends on the adapter. Some just use tape similar to a cassette. Some use some white stuff that is more abrasive than tape. Either way I would clean the deck with a head cleaner and not worry about it. Ideally an adapter that hooks into the cd changer controls would be best. Formymercedes sells one I believe. A few companies make them. Search for Ipod adapter on google and you'll find the companies.

heh I rented a porno for my vhs player. My lady was with me and we waz gonna get all freaky while watchin it. I was really pissed cause it wouldnt play. It was just static on the screen. The movie was called head cleaner

The adaptor has its own head type device on it and makes contact with the head of the unit....no ribbon or anything on this adaptor.
