Hi,
I custom made a tool to bolt onto two of the four 10mm bolts that hold the waterpump pully on,i believe MB techs use a similar tool...

there is a holder tool, but its like $50 last time I checked, I do have it, but I rarely use it. the way I take off fan clutch is I first remove the fan blade by removing 3 5mm hex bolts that secure it to the clutch, then I use a 10mm wrench to hold one of the 4 bolts and then I use 8mm allen wrench and a breaker(usually 8mm socket with an extension) and then you just crack it open. it helps to spray some penetrant behind the clutch about 10 minutes prior to removal to make the job easier.

nenad,

How is it you have all the cool tools, but never use em when needed.

as long as you keep anti-seize on that front bolt you won't need the holder, you'd be able to back it out anytime

they take the fun out of work. :)
I use the spring compressor frequently, but the clutch holder I think I lost a while back, plus I used it only once. I have quite a few special MB, BMW and VW/audi tools, but for common folks sake,I do my write-ups assuming others dont have them.

man i just took apart the fan shroud and i cant fit anything in there very tight between rad and fan. what kind if allen key did you use dont look like a ratchet will fit. gonna let the car cool before i even get back out there! plus its like 95 outside.

take off the fan blade first, it might give you a bit of extra space. you cant use sockets in there, you need to use the "L" shaped allen wrench, 5mm for the fan blade and 8mm for the clutch bolt in the front. I think I use a shortened 8mm for the front, but I cant really remember, I havent changed a fan clutch in a while.

yeah even the l shaped allen dont fit im gonna have to cut it. i just checked on zdmak.com and they have the holder and allen holder with extention for like 25 on ebay. bucks. might just have to hold out for it
