My 1995 c280 CEL is coming on with the following code:

P0101 -- Mass or volume air flow circuit range/performance problem (Hot film MAF sensor)
Activation requirement CHECK ENGINE lamp:--Two consecutive trips with fault.
Activation of CHECK ENGINE lamp: --At start of next trip
Test to detect fault:--The engine control module checks the air mass signal for its limiting value. A fault recognition is transmitted via CAN to the diagnostic module. The diagnostic module recognizes a failure after approximately 2 seconds.

when I start the car (without stepping on the accelerator ) my engine revs up and down for a few seconds and then levels off. (mostly when hot). The car still drives great (I cleaned the MAS recently), even when the CEL is on.

Is this a staright forward "replace the MAS" situation or could it be the mas wiring? (or will I have to replace the mas to find out)

if you havn't ever replaced ur engine harness that could be an issue, w/o getting live data you really can't diagnose this issue, you can buy a used ONE From a junk yard for a test... otherwise you are just throwing darts
