View Full Version : About to have one of a kind Kinesis K57R 17" (that's right, 17") rims made!

That's right! Mr. Max A. Rimbender here is hopefully going to have rims made that should last him a time measured in years instead of months -- well, here's hoping for more then one season, as long as he doesn't let the tire's air pressure drop near or under 30lbs. -- and look sick t'boot.

I've had a lot better luck with 17" then 18" rims. The inner sections I have now works for 18" stepped lip, or 17" reverse lip (there's debate within Kinesis about what's stronger, with a slight subjective nod going to the reverse lip). Kinesis doesn't sell 17" reverse rims though [!] ... they were thinking of doing it once, and had the drums sitting in storage, but never offered them for sale. But, they're willing to accomidate me with them, and I'm going to buy up a lot of their stock for backup (else they'd just throw them out or melt them down one day) Meaning I'll not only be getting replacment inner and outer drums front & rear while having the rims redone, but going to buy their extra stock incase I do bend them again. [!] I wouldn't want to find they threw their stock away or melted them down since they're never going to be selling them.

So if you click "My C43/55" sig link and see how it is now, it will have a high polish lip going straight out from the centers instead of having the stepped lip down. (right now the drums are chrome, so they're going to have to strip them for me) And what you see for the inner sections in my pix are a raw shot peaned [peened?] forged aluminum with a clear anodize. I'm going to pay some nice coin to have them polished smooth and anodized dark grey.

So... help me with your votes:
EDIT: Check Out a Photochop of the Rim Colors on the 5-Spoke Rim (http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=99030#post99030)

A definite is... a reverse lip like these (though I'm only getting a 2.5" rear lip):
http://www.kinesismotorsport.com/images/mercedes/K19Rcustompnt_E55_LG2.jpg
(check out those custom center caps! I have to find out how the owner did them)

...smooth like these, and with the 5 spoke pattern:

However the vote is, do I want my center sections dark like these below (but I'll have a polished lip) or lighter like above? Said another way, exactly like above but a reverse lip ...?... or that, with the darker center color below?

Thanx for Playing!

Fisrt one is cool, be they would be better if the face of the rim was the same color of the third one.

Tho, the one thing that I can't change is I own the 5 spoke ones so the rim design selection is limited to the middle rim, but with a reverse lip.

On the fence now with that.

A lot of people had mentioned they liked the top color on amgpower too, so I guess I should have included that in the voting.

I did some photochopping of the 5-spoke polished, anodized rim...

1) Original 'clear anodize' color
2) A bit darker (I dont' know if they can actually do this one)
3) The dark anozide color I was thinking of doing:

Great!...will be interesting to see the colour!...iv tried to find a similar colour do the S1's,but i think it will be the standard Gunmetal to play it safe...Anyhow get plenty of pics up on these new wheels man!...

Here they are!

Lol... 1st impression ... I wish they were darker. But I'm sure I'll be happy when they're on in sunlight and non-direct light. When I compare this 3/4 view pic to the sample photochop I requested, they're actually the -exact- same tone; just shinier which I didn't expect.

Very nice!,so you went with the darker of the three?...looks the part for sure,i wish the Work wheels also had the colour around the bolts,as the spokes/disk are inbetween the two drum halfs, unlike yours are on the front of the drum.

I used Atl+Tab to switch between windows showing my three levels of color and these rims and I personally think they're closer to the middle color I requested, if just a tad darker, but a good bit lighter then their standard 'dark anodize'. I'm going to be playing hookey for a few hours of the workday tomorrow getting them put on! :D

Pagz

yeh I was gonna say they look closer to the middle one!...great get pics up when there on!...

P.S. now I need a poll on what color of center caps... <big grin> you'll note that on both pix are different colors. The person who handled my account decided the matt black caps worked best and is what she sent. I'm think so too. I'm also going to ask for some blanks to try to make my own with AMG logos.

Its a hard one....im leaning towards the black ones though!

c55m8o

They're on ... I wish they were darker! (where's the "boo hoo hoo" smiley? :o ). No pix; it got dark and started raining after putting them on.

Pretty happy still though. Nice lips! I think I'll be able to keep these clean now too with the polish finish on the centers. (I was out there cleaning the car and them after coming in outta the rain :D ... which is unheard of for me.

Looking good!!!...whats the offset and rim width on the back?

c55m8o
08-29-2006, 07:16 PM
I forgot to call today to check the offset. I think 35mm both front and back. (I should have measured it before putting them on the car) The front rim is 8.5" and rear is 9.5". Since I'm definitely going to be buying that pic, I guess it's OK to mirror it here...

rollinrealbig, the only thing I got right was the widths (8.5 and 9.5). Here's a quote from my Kinesis contact, "The offsets are +29 mm both front and rear. Your backspacing on the front wheels is 5.875" and the backspacing on the rears is 6.375". "

Pagz
08-31-2006, 01:18 PM
+29!,thought it must have been less than 35!...Your rear looks like it for sure!
