OK got the rods peened, after much debate it was decided i would never sleep again if i didnt do it...and the fact Barry from shot-peening sevices was sure there would be no warpage...

For those who dont know what Shot-peening is...Its a process where tiny ball bearings are blasted at the item causing a pitted high strength surface which creates uniform stress in the surrounding material and helps eliminate possible cracking points.

I also found out these rods are tough heat treated, and the beems are rolled(a form of forging)...so all who modify there internals can rest assure the OEM items are well made, and with a good shot peen should last some time!!...we will see!

heres how they look now along with before the shot-peening...

Trust me,i would love to;)!...however its not all that easy!...almost nothing is on your side when raising RPM,and there is to many unknowns to find out the hard way...

First up,will the OEM valve train components take the increase without floating?...

sure the internals seem strong...but how strong?...inertial tensile/compressive loads increase at the Square route of RPM,thus so does engine wear!!!...

the VE of the engine is likely to drop off substantially after this anyhow due to cam profiles, port design etc..remember the M111 is a failry torquey engine...
also i recall my dyno had peak torque around 4000RPM which is usually peak VE...though things maybe alittle different after all the mods.

all in all Raising Boost is a far better option than RPM...though it would be nice to have a 9000 redline like my previous car!.

niiiice.... your progress inspires me.. BUT after talking with my buddys this weekend.. they made it clear that I should NOT attemp to turbo my C230k, but turbo my 92 W201 8valve insted.. my 202 is my daily driver.. :(

Thanks man,the 201 is definatly an easier way to go!,i saw a vid of a turbo EVO 201 smoking it..sounded great!,would swap for that car anyday!

you wouldnt need to do too much to increase rpm redline by like 1000rpm. < this isnt too much, probebly only stronger valve springs. to be honest id say you could run out an extra 1000rpm on standard valve springs without floating, but too be on the safe side id say do them for that sort of increase.

have you thought about new exhaust valves to handle the extra heat abuse. if you went with lighter stainless ones it would also both prevent them from Chernobyl-ing and also allow more rpm
:D

Yip its possible,we will see how the new torque curve in on the dyno first...
the exhaust valves are high quality already, they are liquid sodium filled and thus should direct heat away well!

I said that because I thought he'd gone with stiffer valve springs all along... :bandit:
