if its the throttle "return" spring that is broken i would have thought it would have not stopped reving/de-accelerating and been a hazard rather than cause it to stall
hmmm i would think so too^^^
i dont fully understand the mechanics behind the the DBW unit,it may not need a return spring to operate correctly, but may need it when the key is switched off to return to idle position, the return may also be a safety if the unit should fail...
The DBW unit appares to have two springs...one for the return and one to take stop shock,if the one that takes the shock is broken the TB is able to freely close fully...

Oh that's the little one.
No it shouldn't be causing any stall problems.
Mine was broken when I bought the car. I drove it like that for a month before I found that broken spring.
What I noticed when I replaced it was that the gas pedal was much stiffer to push. This seemed to make the car less responsive, but obviously that's just perception due to the greater effort.
I had a problem with the dealer on this part. It was tough to tell which part number to order. There's two springs on my year (94). It depends if you've got an updated throttle body linkage or not. One spring is fat (the one I ordered first) the other is skinny (size of a pencil). I needed the skinny one which if for updated throttle body linkages.

i understand what your talking about paul, yours is only by dbw and doesnt have any cable connected from the pedal to throtle butterfly directly? is this correct.
myne is a similar set-up as yours kevin
p.s buy a funnel ;)
Yeh man iv only got electrical connections to the TB,makes it that much more of a pain when using aftermarket ECUs!
have to agree with you on the funnel;)...either that or a pretty bad gasket leak!...
