Well, I don't post much here. Mostly just read. I am replacing the rear tires on my 1999 C280 w/ sport package (16" wheels). I am wondering if anyone knows a wider tire size I can run back there keeping the stock rims.
Before my question is answered with directions to the red search button and copy/pasted answers from the past let me just say: "I tried finding the answer myself!"
Thanks in advance.

check your owners manual, i know there is some info about different tire sizes for different driving conditions.

There are two wider size tires you can run: 215/55/16 and 225/50/16. I run 225/50/16 and it makes a HUGE difference, especially with aftermarket springs and shocks. I would run them all the way around, not just on the back. If you go to Discount Tire's website, you can use their handy Tire calculator that will tell you the differences between what you are running now and what you want to run. The 225/50/16 is SO close to the stock 205/55/16 (Sport package tires), it's rediculous. The major difference, of course, is the contact patch. I've run al three sizes on my 280 Sport and the 225's are the best.

agreed!!!
i run 225/50/16 all around on the 16" clk rims. they are my winter rims though. alot more tire grip on the road than stock and the speedo is exactly the same. they look fine too. they don't bulge out at all!
