Hi all, new to this forum, 2nd post! I have been reading the Club202 forum alot lately, especially the suspension part, and, has to be said thanks to Club202, have been infected with the modding virus. First up where the wheels, I bought W203 16" ones. I plan to buy 17" mono's in the future. Now the lowering....

I have a question for whoever knows. In one of the posts on the forum the following is said:

"Eibach Pro-Kit ( NOT Sportline ) do the job just fine.
You can do any " final tweeking " with pads. "

Why is it that the sportline kit from eibach is excluded? There's only 10mm difference between the pro- and the sportline kit. Is there something someone found out? I think I read somewhere(Hvmercy posted it I think) that they can be used just fine.

I ordered my Eibach kit after reading the experiences on this forum. I have ordered and received the sportline kit because I went under the assumption that "pro" was prob. lower than "sport".

Now I am in doubt whether to put the sportline kit on, I don't want my car to rubb when having people in the back. I have also bought the thicker pads to experiment with the ride height.

Does anyone have experience with the sportline kit from Eibach?

btw I own a W202 esprit(C180) from '97 and live in the Netherlands.

Thanks in advance

Actually the sports lower more than than the prokits do. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I went prokit cause I wanted to maintain the stock ride as much as I could. Plus, I intend to keep my stock rims for a while, so I didn't want to drop the car too much.

Ive had Eibach sportline and dident like them because they tend to sag and are kind of bouncy, I switched to H&Rs and enjoy them alot more, but they are stiffer

@davis449
Exactly, I do want my car lowered but not too much. The esprit model comes lowered from the factory but the previous owner decided to install elegance springs. He also threw away the old springs... I do not like the elevated look the elegance springs give at all!

@jnolte
I see alot of people write that the Eibach's are bouncier. I have searched club202 and the bnzsport forum for a while now and most ppl seem to have either Eibach or H&R. What u say is also true I think, the H&R's are alot stiffer. I have a little one on it's way, only a few weeks left, this is one of the reasons I have chosen the Eibach's. Hope they give a lowered, yet somewhat comfortable ride. When they bounce too much I know where to go...

The sportline kit is said to lower the front around 1.95"(50mm) and the back around 1.75"(40-45mm). Correct me if I got the cm-inches conversion wrong.

The gap between the tire and the fender in front is 2.75"(!) and at the back 1.75". So should turn out allright. I bought #3 and #4 pads for the front and #4 for the back to slightly raise it again. The only thing I dont know is which pads are under my car right now. I've looked but I think u have to jack up the car to be able to see it.

Are there pictures of 202's with sportline springs? And the different pad setups? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks guys for the replies

Are there any aftermarket ones? Im asking because Im assuming that mercedes will not have any lower pads since Esprit and Sport pads seem to be the lowest stock for 202s. I want to lower my front end a bit.

Hey NEA,

I take it u already know this list? I used it also. Only I payed a lot less at my dealership, about $6,5 per pad. I don't think there are aftermarket ones for sale...

For W202 mid 96-99
Front(W210 part number) :
210 321 01 84 pad#1 5 mm
210 321 02 84 pad#2 9 mm
210 321 03 84 pad#3 13 mm
210 321 04 84 pad#4 17 mm
210 321 05 84 pad#5 21 mm

Rear(W210 part number) :
210 325 01 84 pad#1 5 mm
210 325 02 84 pad#2 9 mm
210 325 03 84 pad#3 13 mm
210 325 04 84 pad#4 17 mm

For W202 94-mid 96
Front(W201 part number) :
201 321 09 84 pad#1 8 mm
201 321 10 84 pad#2 13 mm
201 321 11 84 pad#3 18 mm
210 321 12 84 pad#4 23 mm

Rear(W201 part number) :
201 325 09 44 pad#1 8 mm
201 325 10 44 pad#2 13 mm
201 325 11 44 pad#3 18 mm

I have changed my set of sportline springs for a PRO-kit!! Just to be sure! This will change my pad set up aswell...

I found out that I have #2 in front and #1 at the back. This is not a standard setup I think because these pads have been put in when the elegance springs were put in.

I assume that that #1 is the lowest one and #5 is the highest, right? If thats the case then there is no way elegance models to have the lowest pads in the rear and quite low in the front as well, I believe this might be the Esprit setup after all... Please enlighten.

The pads are not a standard thing across the w202 line. They are put on according the options that your car comes with (i.e. CD changer, etc.). I believe they do this due to the weight that options add to the car. This would also explain why the pads to do not differ in size al that much, because the weight added by options is not to significant, but just enough to need fine tuning for the suspension. However, say your car has #5's all the way around and you were to put #1's all the way around, yeah you'd probably notice a drop of some sort, but dropping one pad size will not allow you to see much of a difference in ride height.

On another note, in retrospect, I should've gone H&R's on mine. I do find the Eibach Porkits a bit bouncey, but not intolerable.

Hm, I see, that makes sence.

My car is lower in the back than in the front, probably due to the soundsystem Ive installed but even before that, you could still see it if you looked carefully. In addition to that, my rear springs also feel softer and tend to sink the rear wheels in their arches a lot more than in the front (see avatar - 4 people inside, all).

I would like to drop a size or two in the front and maybe leave the rear as it is. They say that if I go to the dealer and give them the chassis serial No. they can tell me the part No.s of the spring pads. Do you think they ll do it? (Well Im asking because these guys tend to behave like dicks sometimes, probably throughout the world).

And last but not least, Will I have any scraping problems if I just put #1's all around? Im on 8.5J 225/40/18 all 4 and I dont have any scraping problems at all with my current setup. Thanks:)

You're going to want to bring the car level so I wouldn't recommend going with the same pad all the way around. That would only lower your car slightly lower and keep the same proportion you have now. I don't see any reason why the dealer wouldn't give you the part numbers for the spring pads. I don't think they would give a shit since you're probably going to buy them from them anyway. It's just another sale to them. Plus, it's your car, why would they care what you do to it. Hell if you void any warranties on the car (not that you are or anything), it only saves them money.:D

already had it lowered, I went for the Eibach Sportlines and Bilstein sprint shocks with number 1 pads on the rear and number 2 on the front... lowered the car no end, and the ride is fine.
