Ignition Surround

Just a quick question. Since I am fairly new to the W202's I noticed there is a plastic translucent ring around the ignition slot. My question is should this ring light up? I have seen in other cars this was the case (non w202's). Just curious, because mine does not but if it should I would like to know. BTW my car is a 2000 C280 Sport.

as far as I know they dont. I have a 97' and its just a chrome ring and thats it. no lighting effects.

no it doesn't light up. it's just a retaining lock to hold the EIS in position if you have a smart key or the standard ignition on older models with the blade key!

I'm always worried that I am missing some wonderful feature that I could be using but don't even know its there unitl 2 years down the road.
