Now my next project is HID lights for my headlights.

I can't afford this: http://www.bekkers.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=030108&Category_Code=mhlightcclass

I'm thinking of geting this: http://www.xenonlightsource.com/productsX.htm

I wonder if the beam pattern will be affected. Anybody tried this before?

yeah ur beam pattern is going to be affected, if u do a search there is quite a few discussions on oem vs. aftermarket HID's, most of which ultimately made me decide just to save up and get the oem ones from bekkers

...just get some projectors and then retrofit the HIDs into the projectors and save yourself $900+

Ok, i have had this broplem for some time now. Is it worth 1400 dollars for teh OEM convetion. I mean, i got some headlights and retrofit HID for about 500 total and i have a great beam pattern, great light and you cant tell teh difference. Is it worth an extra grand just to have a "better" beam pattern. I dont know, i think i can live with and "OK" beam patter and have an extra grand to play with, then have a "better" Beam pattern, but thats just me.

I am wondering this myself also, any answers?

How much would it cost to just to get a retrofit and who does this?

A retrofit is the same base shape whatever bulb you order it as and it is much like changeing a normal bulb. you just drop the HID bulb in the housing, connect the ballast as instructed, and presto chango, you have an HID sysytem for 200 dollars. I dont know what the big deal about the OEM system, can someone please enlighten

Hi,

Maybe because Bekker's OEM kit include some European Headlights, with vaccum level setting.

I think European Headlights have better reflectors inside.

Now, i run a 250$ H7 HID Kit, and the difference is like compare "Night and Day"....:D :D

I'm happy with that Kit. ;)

Only thing, here in Europe, you must have Headlight wippers or nozzles with HID's, so i've add some Home Made ;)

What it ultimately boils down to is the beam pattern. HID's in halogen housings cause stray beams that blind other people.

My question is this: will retrofitting projectors or whatever its called give a clean beam pattern?

I use this HID Kit for a year now, and noone seems to be blind.

I see COP's by night etc... and never had problems.

thats basically what it boils down to, and personally i like the look of the oem ones better, it has the parabolic HID reflector instead of the rectangular halogen one, looks a little more modern to me, and it has the awesome vacuum adjust. and yes, if u retrofit projectors that you will get a cleaner line, the only thing is ur headlight lens has those lines on it, and that is what makes ur beam pattern now, so it will still be somewhat skewed (no cool projector strait line), but im pretty sure it will be better than w/o projectors, the ultimate projector retrofit would be some bixenon projectors w/a custom clear lens.

Thanks, I've been wondering about this ever since i joined this board. So lets say i get some projector headlights like these:

And I put an aftermarket HID kit in these, would the beam be better than halogen housing?

how do you "retrofit" those projectors for hid? is there something special you need to do?

im not exactly sure, but i think that in those headlights the projectors are only for the fogs (some1 please chime in if this isnt correct), so for ur actual headlights you would be facing the same problem as with the oem halogens, if u want to retrofit some projectors into ur oem headlights ur gonna need some donor projectors, u can usually find some used ones on ebay from audis or mbs or beemers, and then disassemble ur oems and figure out how to put them in, i know that slammedc had a project going back in the day, maybe try a search and c if u can find it

Yes,

you're right, those aftermarkets proj. are for foglights, and are using some H4 Bulbs for High/Medium Beam, which means worse beam pattern for me.

Second point, those proj. havn't got the vacuum adjust....:(

The Better solution would be some Bi proj. Headlights with H7 bulbs for Medium Beam, and H1 for High beam with vacuum Adjust.

And for the Fog lights, some Mustang Stuff (96-98) to fit in the Bumpers :

little toshop :D
