Top Speed

I have a 96 C220 with 183,000 miles. I was pretty bored tonight so I thought I might hit the limiter and make sure the top speed was 130mph. Anyways I had a ScanGaugeII hooked up to the OBDII port, since it reads and records top speed and max rpms. To make a long story short I was going slightly downhill on Interstate 15 and the speedometer hit 135mph I held it for about 5 seconds then slowly let off the gas. When it was safe I looked down and the Scan gauge said 130mph max at 5600 rpms. Does anyone know why the redline is at 6200rpms?? Will a 2.2 liter go any faster?? It has to be because it only comes with h-rated tires (H are one good to 130mph). All I have are lowering springs and W rated tires (168 mph) on 18's. If anyone else is as crazy as me post how fast your car has gone and at what rpms, if it was safe enough to look.

The fastest ive gone in my c280 is 110mph down this straight stretch of a freeway. Im afraid to go any faster. Lately, my car has felt like its gonna blow or something when i hit like 90. Kinda scary, so i just keep it cruising at about 75mph now on the freeways.

the fastest I have gone in my c280 was 140mph, but this time the governor kicked in late, but it would usually cut out at about 130-135mph according to the speedometer.

210km/h in mine once briefly. Is it just my car or does everyone elses at high speed seem that the front end dips down and "hugs" itself to the road ? Not that its a bad thing...I get better handling at high speed with it.

But when you hit a dip in the road with stock suspension it acts like a cadillac boing boing boing....bouncing...so hilarious.

About 110 on the on ramp going onto the highway. I like to be catpulted onto the highway like a slingshoot. I then slowly coast down to the speed limit.

Never maxed out the 155 limiter. Never had a chance.

160 again racing a friend in his Mitsu Evo 7 (he's a copper). and his brother was behind us in his M3 Convertible.

240kph (152mph) one night on the highway towards Athens, for 22 minutes straight, not taking my foot of the pedal. When the road was slightly downhill it went up to 248 - 252kph (155 - 157mph). I had 3 more persons inside.
Before you ask me how I got away with that, We fortunately dont have many radars in Greece and surely not where I did that. :)

i kept taking it to 200km/h, i reached about 215 a couple of times (big roads, and no radar so its pretty easy to reach high speeds) , its easy to get it to 200, but a pain in the ass to top that....

now only 215...

coming back from Rocklin, my gf was driving since she has drivers lisence, i dnt =( sum other chick in a IS300 was over 100mph so we raced sorta, got it up to 120 and traffic jammed up so no go + my MAF is still fucked I havnt had a chance to do shit about it :rolleyes:

The fastest I've taken the 99 was 135. I think I took the 95 to 130.

I hit the limiter on I10 between Jacksonville and Tallahassee traveling with a 911. A couple times he pulled away to show me he could, but then slowed it down to let me hang. I guess he liked company at those speeds. Speedo read just over 130.

I HAve A Stock 98 C280. I Have Gone Up To 140 MAny MAny Times on The Highways. The Highest Was 148mph (No Kilos Here) On I-57 In Chicago.

I Was Racing A Mazda RX-8 And A Jaguar X-Type 3.0. Even In Stock Condition The C280 Was Too Much For Them. The Rx-8 Was Trying The Hardest To Stay With Us But Couldn't. And For A Second I Thought The Poor Little Pussycat Was Gonna Be A Challenge but I Was Wrong. It Was Three In the Morning And We Were Headed Into The City(Chicago) From The Suburbs So There Was Really No traffic At All. And My 280's needle Was Still Climbing Up The Speedo. The Only Reason I Slow Down And Didn't get Higher Was Because Of Some Construction Ahead.

Just a quick calc: 100mph = 160kmh

so 148mph = 236.8kmh

... which is fast as f**k!

sry to go off topic/hi jack. just pointless making a new thread... and its related :)

so hey Ive ordered a w210 cluster ... Im going to go for the whole 208/210 steering wheel and command1 but really.. I dont want the command1 that much, I do like the steering wheel asthetically and the clocks would be upgraded for the better in a realistic fasion.. I actually percive the Instrument cluster as a upgrade that will add some fairly significant value to my ride, not that much though ;D.

The new cluster has only got 5K as the max redline and has a few red blocks and the end... seeing the videos in this post people in the post they are nearly going to 6K in that video would that mean Im not going to be acurately seeing the rpm..
which kinda puts the brakes on and a question mark over my plans..
