me and my friend got bored the other day and decided to put the "ambeint lighting" thats in the newer mbz and bimmers on my car

it was a pretty easy install, just a couple of 3mm amber 2.5 candella leds, a 680 ohm resistor, and some black led housings. we wired it to my SOS light so that they turn on w/my headlights, i like the way they turned out, the color and intensity is almost dead on w/the ones in my friends 5series

Wait so how do you do this exactly? Did you have to take anything apart?

yeah, u have to take the light assembly out, drill it, glue the leds and mounts into the holes u drilled and wire up the leds, sorry i didnt have my camera on me when i installed them, so no pics, it was a relatively simple process though

like i said i didnt have my camera on me when i installed it, so i couldnt do a write up, ill try to do a verbal one though i guess...

first: you have to take out ur light assembly, u do this by removing the lenses and theres 2 metal tabs that u have to pry toward u and it should pop right out

second: figure out where u want to make the holes and drill them according to the size of led housings that u purchased, then glue the housings in the assembly

third: wire up ur led's i made a quicky diagram on paint, the resistor u need should printed on the back of the pack of led's you buy look for the amount of resistance needed for 12V, i would actually try to get one that is a little higher because cars typically run at around 13V and u dont really want to take a chance w/ur led's, they pop quite easily when overloaded

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e298/crazywhytboi/ledwiringdiagram.jpg

fourth: stick ur led's in the housings

fifth: wire the led's to ur car, positive goes to illumination wire (if u want them to turn on w/ur headlights), its grey w/a blue stripe, then wire negative to ground, its the solid brown wire, or you can ground it to a screw thats up there, thats what i did (just make sure the screw is going into metal not plastic)

final: pop ur light assembly back in, put the lenses back in and ur done

those little black circles in the pictures are led housings, a piece that will hold the led in place....u can buy all this stuff at electronics stores, frys should have all the stuff
