hey all, weirdest shit happened to me today at the dealership. my rear driver's side brake light kept blowing out so i replaced the bulb a bunch of times and it kept blowing. i eventually replaced the whole panel and the same bulb kept blowing out. i took it in to have it checked out at the MB dealer and they said it was the alternator?! that's beyond me but who am i to argue. they gave me a ballpark figure of around 400 for the part and blah blah for labor, etc. and it looks like it's going to be about 600+. f#$% that.

that price seems way too high to me, since i see some bosch alternators online for 98 C230 for around 150 or less. thoughts?

measure the voltage at that terminal to make sure its the alternator.

Hmmm maybe the voltage rectification/regulation was poor on the alternator...that could cause bulbs to blow...it could also cause other unprotected stuff to blow also
