View Full Version : PO170....with a twist
yesterday i was sitting at a redlight and i noticed my idle start to bog down. Seconds later, my CEL came one
got to work and pulled the code, P0170. I know everyone that has had this says it's almost ALWAYS the MAF, but here's the twist
PO170 - Fuel Trim Bank 2
first off, which side is bank 2? The left (drivers) head looks to be closer to the front, but the right (pass) side injector seems to be closer.
Second off, what do you all suspect? If it were the MAF i'd think that it wouldn't be a specific bank, could this possibly be an o2 sensor?
I realize it could very well also be a leak in the intake, weak injector, etc, but i'm just trying to figure out why it's bank 2 and not both sides....

my CEL also went on because of a fuel trim malf. I need a new MAF before I can say anything else. Im sorta not supposed to be driving my car thats why my dad isnt buying me a MAF but I still drive w/CEL on. risky but oh well just a couple weeks to go.
my idle is at 500-600rpm

I've been driving with my CEL on for about 2 months. There's no way im paying all that money for an air pump or an air hose checkup right now.

my idle is about the same, 600ish. it's a bit rough, and lately has started to bog down a bit.
But what is really throwing me off is the code reader said Bank 2. that leads me to suspect an o2 sensor and i hope it's nothing more.

its your maf dude.. dont try to deny it from yourself! same thing came up on my 202.
I ran with my CEL light on w\ a failing maf for 5 months! I even drove to Seatle & back. the supercharger kept shuting off whenever I wanted boost from it. it would stay N\A with what it seemed like 85hp.. untill I restarted teh car.
I gave up and bought a new one after getting a red light ticket.. 85hp couldnt make it across the intersection in time.
now I am kinda ticked off I fixed it because now I drive fast all the time.. I just love how much torque the kompressor gives instantly!
if it were my maf wouldn't it affect both sides of the motor?
you couldn't have a similar problem because you engine is inline, mine is a v6. therefore bank 2 represents one side of the engine, 3 cylinders.

oh yea its slow alright!!
I cant even pass people on the freeway! ... but still raced a 201 and he lost I dont know why .. :confused:

XD wow lol but in having a simmaler issue
s/c boosts on take off but i cant give it full throttle or it will sputter and backfire and dog out
but i can give it 1/4 throttle and the s/c wont shut off for a good ways im getting the po170 code also and i dont wana pay 250iddy for a new maf-sensor

Bank 2 doesnt mean left or right side of the motor, it sounds like it would but it doesnt lol because i got the same code too with banks one and 2 on my kompressor which is a straight 4 and it was the maf and ive had no more problems

I'm not convinced it's the Maf. My car does this occasionally and i have a new MAF. I do have an intake and a wonky AFR which I think explains it. rman are you stock?

zmatt are you getting a code for a o2 sensor for the one or 2 on the exauhst ? or coil pack or fuel pressure
