View Full Version : Front End Noise - Spring Pads?

Ok, so when I bought the car it had some front end noise that only was truly sometimes, and never constant even at that. I chocked it up to front shocks because when the noise came you can rock the front end and up and down motion makes the noise come up. I replaced them with OEM Bilsteins and it didn't really solve the problem. I still get the same noise - sometimes - as before.
Anyway, I was thinking sway bar bushings and then my buddy mentioned spring pads. Is is possible that either of these would make the car have noise similar to that of a shock/strut noise when rocking? Any help would be much appreciated.

I get a kinda squeaky noise from the front of my car when going over speed bumps and stuff. Are you getting the same noise?

check out the upper control arm bushing with the upper ball joint! there were a common failure and had noise issues alot back then with the early 202's.

Yes, it does make a kind of knocking on speed bumps, but the weird thing is that is only happens sometimes, maybe 40% of the time or so...

I'm not sure where you got this info, but the upper almost never fails on a 202. The lowers on the other hand....

it's actually the upper ball joint that makes the sqeeking/clunking noise. yes the lowers fail alot more commenly but the upper did have a problem. a long time ago when the 202's first came out, ppl at the dealer would replace everything besides the upper arm and it never fixed the problem. finally years ago they put out a DTB saying to check the upper ball joint!

Interesting. Most MB specialists will tell you they've never had to replace uppers. I did so on my old C280 at about 75k miles just because I felt it was time and the old ones are still in storage, as they were still good. Is it the joint or the bushings that is the subject of the DTB?
