My SRS light has been coming on every time I start my car. It will stay on between 30 seconds and 3 minutes, but always goes off. It doesn't matter if it is first thing in the morning or 5 minutes after I shut it off last. Anyways I finally got a reverse torx bit socket to pull my seat out because I wanted to steam clean the carpets and get everything out from all the impossible to vaccum areas. The most I did was pull up half the carpet under the drivers seat because there was change there for some reason...and I lifted up the wiring tunnel (all plastic with around 20 random wires in it) to get a quarter out. The first 3 times I drove the car (around 50 miles total) no light came on. The next day it has come on everytime Ive started the car. This has been going on for around 3 days and Im wondering if anyone else has had similar problems or can help. The car is a 96 C220 with 184,000 miles on it. Any help would be great!! Thanks!!

Nevermind!! I did a little searching and have come to the conclusion that its on because I unplugged the three connectors on the bottom of the seat. When I was pulling the seat out I needed it to recline more. I plugged in the main connector and turned the car on to recline it more with the other two unplugged (red and black). I was reading that the red connector controls the seatbelt connector. Im guessing that turning the car to on tripped the code because it wasn't plugged in. Someone please agree with me so I not worried about it. I can live with it for 2 minutes a day but dont really want to pay money to get it checked or reset.

When there has been an interruption in the SRS circuit with the ignition on a fault code is logged, but when the SRS light goes out after 2mins it means that the SRS is still operational and the airbags etc. will still function as usual.:)

common problem with all 202's. if it comes on for a few minutes and goes away...you have a bad seat belt buckle. 90% of the time it is the R/F buckle that needs to be replaced. my car does the same thing - start the car and then 2 minutes later the light goes off. i never bothered to replace it because once the light goes off, the SRS system in 100% functional. however the light bothered me for those 2 minutes so i took out the bulb in the instrument cluster, HAHA. some may thing that's stupid but i run a short test for codes like twice a month at work just to be sure nothing else has popped up!

Yeah, what happens if the SRS light stays solid on whenever the car is on? The tag on my 94 C280 pillar says they have been serviced and do not need service again for another few years. Any ideas?

If the SRS light remains on for more than 2 mins it means you have a major fault logged and the SRS system is inoperative, you should have the codes read and the system repaired immediately as the airbags and seatbelt pretensioners will not deploy in an accident.
