Not much of a Perfomance Tuning, more like a waste of time and money.

I can see it now at a local meet:

"Hey check out my new flame exhaust."

"Do you use it to cook marshmallows?"

"Nah man, I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time....."

Please try to bring worthy topics to the board, this one is crap.

as far as I know, the exhaust flame igniter requires a little gasoline as well, not just exhaust gases and a spark plug, and the system is usually installed at the muffler tips.

hey thats not fair. everyone has their own thoughts and ideas about their car thats what makes each one unique ive seen mods that i would consider hideous but yet the replys flow in that it is loved. like on my ride yeah i have white neons and i know what the board thinks about it but i get nothin but good input on em and i like em! to each their own otherwise everyone woul all have the same bullshit stuff day in and day out. maybe he wants to be unique. hed be the only one with fames on a benz ive seen. would i do it n mine? no but wouldnt criticize someone that did it. hey i want lambo doors up front, got anything to say about those? o wait, i dont care. his questin was on the install not what you thought about it. an opinion is one thing but blatent put downs are not neccasary. and shouldnt be allowed in the forum.... *my 2 cents....

p.s. google exhaust flame thrower instal, it should give ya a few ways... good luck!

if the flame thower exhaust is cool, no one has a right to rag on any mod that compton benz has to offer.

reson i asked here because maybe somebody has had one installed on their benz, and we all know benz has its own personality unlike any other car, maybe its simple maybe its trick.

im not here to argue, I just want to know how I can do this.

@ 1SIKBNZ , id like to see white neon, my w202 is white and i had that in mind. haha !!

Very good point. Seeing that this "mod" is nowhere near anyhting that resembles Performance Tuning, I felt inclined to write what I did.

Now before you try and get all snippy with me sport, maybe you should reevaluate what you write and where you post it. You obviously have no idea of what performance tuning means and are taking stabs in the dark about some mod you think may fall under the category.

Apparently you do need a lesson about how and where to post Threads, and I could care less about this mod or what you do to your car. I step in when people bring crap to the board, and it seems like you bring alot of it.

BTW, I didnt screw up this thread. I glanced at the title and saw who posted it, and knew this thread will be another pointless, wasteful, and board polluting topic.

Bring something good to the board and maybe Members like myself can come to appreciate you. You have like 1700+ posts with maybe 2 that are of any substantial contribution to the community.

OK, I'll try something constructive.

First off: Rollin, maybe if you 'rolled a little smaller' sometimes you wouldn't get this reaction from people. Not to dog on you buddy, cause I was 15 once too, but a little humility goes a long way in life. It's obvious to most of us that you don't know much about cars yet, but I love your passion. Being a little more humble will get you a lot more respect and help from this board. Just my opinion, take it for what it's worth.

As for your flamethrower install, here's some tips. I've installed this on several cars before, but only on older hot rods and lowriders. Here's a brief overview of how the system works. You weld in a spark plug within 12 inches of the end of the tailpipe and wire in a separate ignition coil to ignite the plug. Then you wire in a control box that will cut the ignition from the engine for a quick second and transfer the voltage to the coil for the exhaust to ignite the flame in the tailpipe via a switch in the dash. Voila, there's your flame thrower exhaust.

I don't want to discourage you, but there are some major problems your going to have trying to put this kit on your benz. To make the kit work properly you'll either need a lot of unburned fuel in the exhaust from an overly rich carb or you'll need to plumb some additional fuel lines lines and plumb in a separate fuel injector to the exhaust after the catalyst. These systems don't work well on fuel-injected cars because they don't run rich enough to create a flame without something major wrong. Not to mention that you have a catalytic convertor that cleans up all or most of the unburned fuel. Using this kit with a catalyst will cause extreme damage to the cat, so you'll have to remove it sooner or later which isn't good for emissions in California.

You'll also have trouble with placement of the spark plug in the tailpipe because the tailpipe on all 202's is very short (less than 6 inches). Placement depth of the spark plug has a tremendous effect on the pattern of the flame and the pipe on your C230 in my experience will be too short. In all the cars I've installed this kit on, I've found that the best depth is about 9 to 10 inches. That gives a good flame in a tight pattern that shoots about 4 to 5 feet, not just a big ball of flame. So you'd need to remove or replace you muffler as well and extend your tailpipe.

So you see, it's not that it can't be done, but it may not be in the best interest of our car to install it. Either way, good luck!

wow, you guys ... read my first post, does it sound rude to you ?? i was being rude to Denlasoul cuz he was being a prick with the replies. another thing, im almost 17, I know more about cars/benzes then alot of the members on here because its just in me - my pops owns an automotive shop I think id know some of the basics but i can only learn.

RollinRealBig thats my screen/user name for almost everything, i dont know I made it up one time and used it ever since.

now your saying im immature and rude I just needed an answer to my question not a whole lesson on why this mod sucks and why i shouldnt post it everybody makes mistakes! Have I ever been rude/mean with the replies to anyone ? have I ever pissed anyone off on this board ?? name one person besides Denlasoul who got what he was asking for ! im pretty sure ive had always put positive replies to help out ppl and thats what ive gotten from people.

Thanks to Benzaddict who actually took the time and explained it to me that this mod is just not for a benz. now other ppl may actually read this and learn also that this shouldnt be done on a benz. I appreciate that! ;)

I just thought it would be a cool mod to have, can you blame my taste ??

in a nut shell, yes im only 16, yes im learning. im sorry if i ticked you off. I am on Club202.com to get help with my 202, to get ppl's opinions, to see whats hot whats not and to just share mods. maybe even help others with their problems if ive experianced them before. this is not a community that id like to be a kid on and talk trash, thats what we have myspace for anyway haha!! so i hope you would agree with what i just said.

Yes I do agree. Like benzaddict said there is alot more to it than it seems.

For the record I do happen to like flames shooting out an exhaust. I think they look great on hot rods and the such. I do not agree that it would cool at all on a MB as it is considered a luxury car.

You say you know alot about knowing cars and such, but your posts and threads seem to indicate otherwise. I mean c'mon you even said "you dont understand why they have a redline" and I cannot really recall anything you've written of real substance. Most of your posts are like: "Im retarded" or "Crashed my car."

Now if you really were the knowledgeable car person you claim to be, then I'd probably would have given you advice or even pointed you in the right direction. Your responses and history on the board reflect otherwise. You and you buddies think its cool because you saw the Fast and Furious trilogy (jeez is it really that many?), and wanna do up you luxury car.

On the other hand, you'll be the first person to write something and whine about being given a ticket for your "flame exhaust" and bitch about cops and how they pick on you. Its not because you are young, its because when you are young you tend to do dumb shit. Like everyone else on the board I was young and dumb too.

Dont get me wrong, I'm not an expert or mechanic by any means. What I do not know, I read and try to learn about it. That way I can ask questions and be taken seriously.

When you come across like you really dont know or dont care, why should anyone put forth the effort?

OT: this should be in a more general area anyway. Like I originally stated, I wouldnt consider this a "Performance Mod."

i crashed my car is a mistake everybody makes nomatter the age. 'why is there a redline', OMG do you know why i asked that ??

ok, the topic was Initial D racing video game, I meant 'why do they even put a redline' - i meant in the game because its pointless as you dont blow your engine in that video game. geez when are you ppl gonna get over that ???

Im not worried about cops right now because im not a dumbass driver. 'off-road use only' has a meaning to it. IMO.

ya I can be stupid with the things i do but its just my personality you dont know me i dont expect you too but its just the way i am. still know things when it comes to cars. Im not really serious most of the time is because i just got a sense of humor. thats all but i still stick to the point. why am i explaining myself to you when ive already learned what i need to know about the REAL topic which was in the first post!
