I have been informed that the reason my car might be ticking is because of arcing. I know I have to check in the dark, but what exactly am I looking for??

you are looking for electrical arcs or sparks. they should appear between the cable and the metal(ground).

check for a loose battery cable. make sure those are on and take it from there. good luck

like nenad said, look for small blue sparks near the plug wires/metal objects.

the wires would have to be defective if they're arcing, but it also could be time to change the coils, since they may be due with the age of our cars these days.

I just changed to magnecor wires/ iridium plugs; it has been doing that ever since.
