Is this car an OBD I or OBD II? I see some reference to it being a II, even though it's a year earlier than required by law. One scantool manufacturer states that a '94 is OBD II, but that the '95 wasn't. I did see the round diagnostic plug on the passenger side under the hood, which leads me to the next question. If it;s a II, how do I use the scan tools with the rectangular plug? Is there a connector?

Thanks

yes, most 94 and up benzes are OBD2, and starting from 96, all are. the OBD connector is under the steering wheel, you will see a black rectangular cap, just flip it open and the plug will be exposed.

Thanks. I will probably get a scan tool, but before I do, can I clear a CE condition by pulling fuse 32?

you can clear the CEL by disconnecting the batter for a few minutes, but if the fault is still present, the light will come back on after a few starts.

is should be under the steering wheel. however, as far as I know, OBD2 is a standard on US spec vehicles, I dont know if it extends to any other markets around the world.

I haven't gotten around to taking off the panel under the instrument panel, so I don't know whether there is a rectangular ODB II plug there, but I did see the big round plug on the pass side under the hood.

Am I correct that the round plug is a diagnostic port?

Did MB put a round diag plug and an OBD II port on the same car?

I know it's bad form to answer one's own post, but I did just poke around and find a black plastic cover, which when pried open, looks alot like an ODB II port, no tools required.

yes that is the OBD port under that plastic flip cover, and the port in the engine compartment is the factory scanner port.

Yeah there is an odbII port and a diagnostic port under the hood on my car. The round diagnostic handles all codes including srs, abs, climate control, engine and emissions. OdbII only handles engine and emissions codes.
