So.....these guys built a better car than the one officially made at AMG? 400+hp seems to be stretching it, if he ONLY did a motor swap. Nice car though.

400hp and 400+torque they mention must be bogus
if they are good at modding that motor, they'd be more famous, i think we'd all have heard of them by now and lots of people would be doing those mods
unless they prove it otherwise with different dynos etc. i think stock 349hp is all they got

is it 349 hp stock? That is still better then my 115 stock!!

I'm not so sure that would be true...it's not like everyone knows about MB Autowerks and those guys who did that one crazy turbo C36...hell, most of us here didn't even know that there was a C55 roaming the bay area until recently. Most only know about shops with significant marketing $$..

I've never heard ot MB Autowerks till I got on the forums. In fact, most of the info I received has been form the forums.

What I think ES means is that unless they are relatively new, someone would have mentioned the shop already. Especially, if they are doing MB tuning.

When I went to the original link, I got "The seller ended this listing early because of an error in the listing."
Uh-oh
Here it is relisted
C43 > 55 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2427845323&category=6334)
They list some mods, but none of the engine mods that would boost it 50HP...

In searching for this, I also saw a 98 C43 w/50K mi. for Buy it now price of $21,888
Ouch! (or yay!, depending on your perspective...) (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2427558241&category=6334)

Okay, I emailed the guy who is selling this car and this is what he responded with:

The guys modified the exhaust system and did some tuning to pump out the
400hp. The motor came out of an S55 that was totaled in the rear.
There is approximately 30k miles on the engine now. Also, there were
only 1500 C43s made in 1999.

I originally asked how they got the extra 50 or so horsepower and what happened to the S55 that donated the engine. That was the response I got back from the seller. Pretty funny, huh?

NO WAY IN HELL there was 1500 99C43's. If I am not mistaken that is more than the TOTAL of C43's sold in the us 98-00!

Also to modify the exhaust to fit the C (compared to the CLK, E, S), I would think the car would be more restrictive instead of less. Unless, of course these guys really really really know what they are doing. Look at the stock Clk55 (W208) and the E55(W210) same engine, but the CLK has less power.

I don't know about these guys, I want a better shot of the engine compartment.

Yeah, like Den said, there were fewer than 1500 that made it to the states, TOTAL. I had the no's around somewhere, but can't find then now. A few hundred in 98, only 20 imported in 2000, the bulk made in 99. I think the number is more like 12-1300 total...

The 50hp came from custom headers, high flow exhaust, and a chipped ECU if not mistaken. The S55 was a total loss car.

I'd be very impressed if they(you?) got those gains from just head back and ECU. Is the car straight through all the way, or was there any internal work done?

:werd: Those would be quite impressive. If you are the owner, do you have any dynos to support the gains?

The car belongs to my friend. I don't think there's any internal work done to the motor.
