heres my head. How do I tell if it is beckers or alpine? Does anyone have one they want to sell? I broke off the cd button :( Pretty common according to the bose repair place. Any idea if I can plug and play a newer head and if its better?

Check the model number. If it starts with BE such as BE1692 it is a Becker unit. If on the other hand it starts with CM such as CM2396 then it is an Alpine unit. The Alpine units have very flimsy buttons that seem to break.

You can tell by the buttons usually. That particular one you have pictured there is a Becker. The Alpine ones have the cheap buttons that feel like they're going to fall off. The rounded off buttons are Alpine HU's and the flatter ones (like that one pictured above) are the Becker HU's.
