hey.. just had a fender bender on my rear bumper.. its been unseated, and mangled on the corner (nothing body filler cant fix).. the the body shop want £400 for a new bumper, and spray paint!!.. (dealer priceing) woot for mb owners eh...
The bumper is made of 3 sections:
under skeleton - with bulges/lumps of polystyrine to protect the chassis - and let me tell you it does a damn good job.
cover section - AKA the bumper cover.
top trims - sit on bumper cover
I phoned up a a guy whos breaking a c230 he would of let me have the whole bumper cover + skeleton for under £100!!! but he sold the bumper cover ;(
if you need some parts for you car and your in london I'll pass you his number.. its a 1998 c230K sport @80K burgandy!.
ifirc
hes got the blower for £300
the motor for £500
the trany for £400
hes priceing is very reasonable!!
UPDATE:
Ive temp fixed my bumper my self, and reseated it perfectly, after straightening out the under skeleton as the bulges were warped and preventing it from siting under the taillight glass.
I know it probably wont be as strong again.. but Il have to wait for something.
taking it off is really simple - thank goodness!! a good peace of automotive design if you ask me, the boot comes apart and goes back together SOLIDLY.
how the trims are connected to the cover is diabolical though - theres a right tool for that job ive no doubt.. just a right pain when you dont have it... mb engineers must have micro rachet sets or something
..and with the amzing 20/20 heindsight
you have in these experince i now see that removing the skeleton from the cover might be the intended route..
Now going to sand the corner down a bit.. might need to give it a bit of the grinder for a sticking out bit... and a then apply some fiberglass +resin to fix the crack/break..
considering I was told the bumper would NEVER be reseated!
lol
