Well my c43 just hit 120k miles, ive owned the car since it had 55k miles and to my knowledge the MAS has never been replaced. I read up on how cleaning it might free up horse power so decided sure why not. I used carb cleaner spray first, then brake cleaner spray, then electrical cleaner spray.

I took my car around the block and i swear the car has so much more power. throttle response improved and a tap of the gas im already at 30 mph. The car seems to idle higher though, right below 750 rpms. it use to idle at 600-650. Maybe my imagination, but i swear it did something.

Just thought I'd share. have a good day haha

Could you give more details of cleaning process?
I've read about a process where the MAF is removed from car, the electrode is cleaned in a citus cleaner then alcohol. However, it sounds like maybe you just sprayed the various cleaners into the air intake?

First I removed the MAS from the intake. Then i sprayed it down using basically the entire can of carb cleaner and the entire can of brake cleaner and then a lil of the electronic cleaner. (brake and carb cleaner was like $5 total) after that I just reinstalled the MAS and turned on my car, let it idle for a bit, then took it around the block...

maybe unplugging my battery to reset the ecu would be good also? any input on that???

FWIW, as someone else on 202 pointed out to me, CRC makes a cleaner specifically for MAFs. The idea is to use something that will not leave any residuals that will affect the delicate sensor's material.

I have used it on my MAF and it has worked but only on a short-term basis.

CRC MAS Cleaner is the only thing I would recommend. the carb and brake cleaners are too corrosive for the MAS, I hope your MAS lasts more than a few months from now.

checker sells it here in honolulu. any parts store can order it for you, just provide them with the item #, which you can find on the CRC site.

the carb and brake cleaner was only used to clean everything off, after that i used an electronic cleaner to take off all the brake cleaner.... the crc electronic cleaner i used is the same as the MAS cleaner

Pep Boys has it. You have to look for it though. No doubt you will find the brake cleaner, throttle body cleaner and the electrical contact cleaner before your find the MAF cleaner! Keep looking and you will find it.

I once went to three stores to find the CRC MAS cleaner. I lost it somewhere and had to got to three other stores the next week to find it again. Most carry a few but sell out quick. Also, according to CRC the electric and MAS cleaners are two different things.

Your MAS might still go though. It was a bandaid for me. It will buy you a little time before the MAS finally says no.

Did you have any diagnostic codes which pointed you towards the MAS???

There was actually nothing wrong with my car. I just figured at 120k miles the thing must be somewhat dirty so i cleaned it. I think it made a huge difference on the power though imo

Yeah I bought a can of crc mas cleaner about 4 months ago...still havent used it. Havent had any problems with my car, just had it smogged and its below the avg. numbers. Its has 185,000 miles on it and I think it was changed and 140,000 right before I got it. Probably shouldnt mess with it until I have problems right??

its really up to you, i would think cleaning it wouldnt hurt, only help.

I felt like my car lost power in the last 25k miles, now the throttle response feels like it once did.
