View Full Version : w210 blinking mirror questions

Hi,

Okay I finally got my w210 mirrors (heated, dimming, blinking).

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/mirrors.jpg

I need to know how to remove the plastic cover from these mirrors. I removed the plastic cover from my W202 mirrors when I was having a look at the wires but it seems impossible to do this to the W210 mirrors when they aren't mounted to a car

(and I don't know how I would mount them to the car either as it seems too hard to do (prying open the mirror and trying to push it against the car while someone is screwing them in)).

My W202 is a right hand drive so my left hand mirror is the passenger mirror. My W210 mirrors are left hand drive spec, so they have the dimming function on the passenger side (I don't think I could have used this function as I do not have a dimming rear vision mirror).

Here are the left passenger W210 Mirror side wires:

Here are the left passenger car side wires:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/leftpassengersidecarwires.jpg

Here are the right drivers W210 Mirror side wires:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/rightdriversidemirrorwires.jpg

Here are the right drivers car side wires:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/rightdriversidecarwires.jpg

Now for the connection options for these mirrors:

Option 1: You can convert the W210 mirror side plug to a W202 compatible plug which directly plug onto the car. (This one seems to be the best option for keeping the car side of things OEM).

Option 2: You can remove the wiring harness from the car side and follow it to the console somewhere? and unplug it, then attach a W210 wiring loom at the console and run it back to the door mirror and then plug it into the mirror for an easier plug and play application. All that is then left with this option is to run wire's 6 and 7 to the side marker on my car and tap into those wires.

As you can see in the pictures my car has the 5 pin rectangle connector, it doesn't have the circular one I also see in other people's pictures? Does this make the install easier considering I only have that one plug to convert?

So I am kind of lost as to which direction to go in with installing these mirrors.

Will there be any soldering involved with converting the mirror to the W202 plug? It doesn't look like the wires on the W210 mirror are soldered in but rather held in, in the plastic clip somehow?

And which wires on the W210 mirror correlate to which wire on the W202 plug? I know 6 and 7 will be run to the side marker on my car for the blinker to function, but:

Does the Black / Red wire in position 1 on the W210 mirror plug correlate to the Black / Red wire in position 1 on the W202 plug? and the same question for the other 2, 3, 4 and 5 wires?

It's just that I saw Steve had written the wire numbers up here (where I got my info from) and he said that the 1-5 wires on the mirror correlate to the 1-5 wires on the car but the third wire color was white in his post whereas my third wires on the W202 car plug are Black / White.

Thanks guys!

good to know you dont _have_ to get a w210 wireing harness's

or you can strip the harness from your stock mirrors and replace it into the w210 mirrors. That's how mine is, sacraficed my stock ones lol

Forgot to add, the part number for my W202 car side rectangular plug is 0025458226 (exact same part number on both left and right side plugs). Is there a way to find out what the part number is which clips to this one from the mirror side?

I was going to pull my w202 mirror apart and check it but it didn't look like I could remove the plug to see it as it was connected to the rubber weather seal (don't want to break my 202 mirrors as I will need them if I ever sell).

Hey Ken,

Yeah I read that one too, but I want to keep my 202's so if I ever sell I don't have to spend to go back lol.

ha i did in electrical forums.. lol may be I didnt ask the right way...

But nm I have found a way.. i didnt realise the cavity from the cluster area would be acecssable from the radio area.. I trust if it was a vauxhall or someother car i bet it wouldnt of been straightforward :)...

99.9% i love the design of this car :)

simple:
remove the little lower tray, then uper tray/cubby hole(s) .. remove gear selector trim, remove the trim it sits on, then remove two screws securing the ashtray till its clears the clips, in place.. pull ashtray completely forward ... all straight forward from there..

I also found a spare 12v line on a harness that is just floating around..
if its live i wont have to splice or do anything whack to get my neon dash online hah.. been drving around for days with my cluster half hanging out so i just need to get it done :)

it also turns out that 12v??? .. must of had a bit more then 12 or something LOL.. it blew up my invertor :) doh

and thats what i get for not using a inline fuse (new invertor has one) ;)

Hi,

Are those mirrors power folding ?

Since it was 4 years ago, i can't really remember how i did the install of mine, but i have some pics if you want ? ;)

This may help you :

http://lazajo.free.fr/Mirrors%20montage/WiringMirror.jpg

To remove the cover, ask someone to take the Mirror, and try to insert a flat skrew driver to bend the spring, and remove the clip.

Some pics to show you the way...

Hey Frenchy!

Thanks a lot man that's very useful! Only difference is, on my W202 plug the white wire you describe on your diagram is "black / white" striped, this would be the same wire correct? don't know why it is black / white and not just white like everyone elses I have seen?

And no they are not folding, was planning to do folding mirrors but got these for a good price :D.

Hey Frenchy, okay cool that looks easy, so it is that metal clip I have to depress!

I am very close to finding a hollow cylindrical wedge I can put in between the mirror when I open it up, there are four little metal bits that meet inside the mirror and I am going to look for a hollow metal cylinder that fits over these pieces to hold it open so I can get to that clip easier! Then while this mirror is wedged open I will screw the mirror to the car and use the screwdriver on the clip like in your pictures!

thanks.

Hey ;)

Since the cover is removed, then you 'll be able to screw 1 of the 3 screws, so you won't need that part to maintain the mirror open.

Just put this screw, then you can push the mirror close to the window and screw the 2 other ones ;)

Frenchy.

Hey Frenchy,

Yes managed to get the cover off!

Here are the left passenger side mirror electrics:

Here are the right drivers side mirror electrics:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/rightdrivermirrorguts.jpg

And here is one of the cases to illustrate where the clip point is:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/mirrors/w210mirrorcase.jpg

I have these parts on order which I have been told are the components needed to make the rectangular male connector on the mirror side which fits into the female rectangular connector on the car side.

MA0195455628 : (Pins X 10)

A0305459928 : (Plug X 2)

A0085455026 : (Contact Spring X 2)

I don't think I need the contact spring after all as I have been told this is a female connector part. Did anyone else order any other parts apart from these 10 pins and 2 plugs to make the male connector? Hopefully these are the only parts I need but if not I will need to order them asap.

I was wondering, what would be the easiest ground point for the brown blinking wire?

I will be tapping the side indicator on the front fender as this will power the blinker on the mirror when that blinker gets power.

It also has a brown wire coming from that side indicator, is it possible to run the mirror blinking ground wire into that brown wire on the side indicator or is it a bad idea to tap a grounding wire onto another grounding wire?

At the moment the pins have arrived just waiting on the plugs!

Hi DRM,

here, you'll find a good tutorial in German, but with a lot of pics, enjoy ;)

I got all the plugs and pins that I ordered but they were the wrong plugs. I got the plug part number from another forum which had a picture with it but it is not the correct number for that plug, I got 6 pin plugs 3 on top and 3 on the bottom.

I need this plug desperately:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b97/Drmzxjd/8055_1.jpg

I have checked the dealer for the part number on the plug above but it is not in stock in any of the warehouses but I am sure there are other part numbers that I can try for this plug as I have seen them on a lot of different benz's.

Does anyone know a part number for a plug that looks identical to the one above? I need it ASAP.

That male plug fits into this female plug:

Thanks.
