View Full Version : WORK 3pce S1 forged wheels >another disappointment<
One of the key reasons i purchased these wheels was to loose around 2.5Kg off each rim as well as saving wieght by swapping to lighter tires...after waiting nearly 3months....today i picked them up.
I have it in writing...WORK S1 8.5"/9.5Kg and 9.5"/10.5Kg
Axis front 8.5 rim = 12Kg
WORK S1 front 8.5 rim = 12Kg
Axis rear 9.5 rim = 13Kg
i dont have the WORK 9.5 rim weight off the tire...but i can make an assumption they wiegh the same as the Axis...
Because....Old rear setup with Axis 9.5 with 245/35 tire weighs 24.4Kg
WORK S1 9.5 with "235/35 tire" wieghs 23.3Kg ONLY 1.1Kg less and that will be due to the smaller tyre!!!...
SOMONE WILL BURN THIS TIME.
For comparison, the OEM sport rims+tyres weigh ~17Kg....the difference in braking and acceleration compared to the 19's is night and day...hence why the 2.5Kg wieght loss was so important.
Anyhow heres a few crap pics.

Paul
These would have suited my personal tastes exactly if they had have been lighter....the suppliers qouted the wieghts.
not only that but i was told the bolts would be nice light wieght items also.....BUT NO.

Honestly Paul, I love what youve been doing to the car and all, but those wheel arnt growing onto me. :(
Milano's were perfect on you car IMO, maybe get those painted a shade darker ??
Fair enough,
the milanos where boring.

they look really good...but i love the older ones more...so you paid extra for a rim you though was a lot lighter, but it comes out that it actualy isnt...if they lied in the advertisment then you can sue and get the money back...
yeh i payed alot more to get what i was told was a light wieght alloy...they e-mailed me the wieghts which were 9.5 and 10.5 Kg....both front and rear wieght 2.5Kg more than they said they would!...its alot!
ill sort it out with them tomorrow...
i ordered them through a big company/franchise so its in there best intrest they do somthing about it...

If you wanted to save weight, why did you go 3-piece and are those 19"?
either way it looks sick! why not go 18s?

Reasons why i still have 19.
-Because they told me they were 9.5Kg and 10.5 Kg!!!.
-because i already had the rubber
They are 19's,just the tight pic in the garage makes it look out of proportion.

Why the 235's on the rear? That tire looks streeeeeched.
I'm assuming that due to the offset a 245 would rub a bit. Now onto the offset? I've seen most 9.5's use around 35 to push a little of the extra width inside the fender.
My stock monoblocks are a 30offset at 8.5in. With your 29offset your wheels should be sticking out an additional .75inch right??
They look good IMO. The weight thing...well, that really sucks bud. Sorry that happened.

yip they are ment to look stretched,I put the smaller tyre on for four reasons....wieght saving at the outer portion of the wheel....to clear the gaurds....to match the angle of the new 225/35 rubber that will be going on the front, and to keep the rolloing diameters closer...the old 245 rears are HUGE.
as far as the wieght issue i will get all money back or a good discount...been dikd many times this year already its not happnen this time.
Heres a better pic shows actual colour alittle better...

on a good note...the workmanship is 100 times better than the milanos.

From a wheel comparison regardless of weight those are 10x sicker than a cast milano. I mean they are totally different animals. A much nicer product.
I must say that I really like those with the new picture up. Whats the diameter?? 19" or 18".
Personally I'm considering a set of custom 17"(thats right 17) kenisis wheels made. Probably a 8.5/9.5 setup like yours. They actually look alot like those, or at least I hope they will:D

and they appear to provide obscene amounts of brake caliper clearance :)

Trust you to notice!
for good reason too...on the front anyway;)
the rear could have been alittle less curved...but i didnt want the very curvey front to be too much different from the rear...
the fronts are T-disk(Biggest curve possible)
and the rears are A-Disk(standard)
i could have gone 0-Disk in the rear(deap dish)

Thanks, always have trouble getting the correct white balance on my camera...keep for getting to change it!.
there 19's!...and they look much better in the flesh!...hopfully get some decent pics when the car comes out of the garage...
sounds good!,sort of like C55m8o's?,they should be ALOT lighter than what i have!
forgot to reply fully to your last message!,yip the 245 would have rubbed with that offet for sure!...the old +40 rubbed down behind the door!!!,it should be alright now hopfully...the +30 gives it a great stance...hard to tell in the pic but the tread is only just under the gaurd...the tyre wall and rim stick well out.

The milanos with the 40et rubbed the lower fender near the door??? I would think they would be tucked into the fender more right, with the 40et and all???
My stock monoblocks are 8.5 30et. I put a 255/40/17 and had to pretty much remove 1/2 of the fender lip from the molding downwards. The amgs roll the upper fender, but the bottoms are not. My 255's roughed them up so much that I had to grind away the beaten metal edge about 1/2 an inch until it was straight. Plenty of clearance when she squats now.:D
Yeah, looking to get a set just like C55m80. I'd look into WORK wheels if they stated their weight claims correctly........consider this a cyber shoulder for your troubles and tears.

they look pretty tight dude.. still not a huge fan of the wheel after seeing it on your car.. but as you say its probably heaps better in person.
too bad about the weight issue.. and for the cost of those things they souldnt be leading you on like like with thinkin they weight less then they actually do.
dont let them take advantage of you mang.. youve let that happen too many times on this build.
so when does the beat covme out of the garage?.. motor back in.. car running at all?.. driven her lately?
I like the Work vsxx better.. nice looking wheel.. but the ones you chose are nice. will have to wait and see the better pics with her out of the garage!!
The stretched tire look is very Euro!!.. thats what is done.. crazy offsets to push the wheel further out.. then a narrow tire on a wide rim to make it just clear the fenders!.. its a damn hot look.
he he he.. clearance for what on the front wheel Paul?!!! BBK coming soon?!!
Ooooo step lip ... I like
Yeah when can u get this thing out and take pics in the sunlight ?? Some full shots of the car with those new wheels on !

haha, i run synthetic through my veins, gear head to the death. i think the best appeal is the fact there is just so much caliper clearance. hell, you could run c32 front calipers back there with that much room; i probably would!

with that last pic you added, I can see why you switched. as sweet as the milanos were, the work wheels are pretty killer. of course they're going to be of higher quality than axis wheels, they're WORK!

The axis rears with 245/35 rubbed on the lower metal area below the plastic panel trim(where i think yours rubbed) when accelerating with pple in the back,i used a rubber hammer to roll the metal alittle...so you cut yours huh!,i bet you have plenty of clearance now:)
Found out today that the national WORK supplier accidently quote me the wieghts for 18's...they have given me a discount of $900NZD over the matter so im happy-ish...

hey hey:),
Yeh mang noooot this time!!!...got a fairly ok discount so that helps the situation...ill just have to be happy with the lighter rubber combo.
The wheels def look better in the flesh fooo sure!...but everyone to there own;)...
Coming out of the garage LOL yeh right....the third and hopfully final set of pistons were sent from US yesturday!,so we have missed out on the fab and ECU till next year...theres a good chance it wont be going early next year either now due to the prospect of us starting to building a house in the next few months...car comes second.
Funny you should say,I almost went with the VSxx!!!,the pics on the jp site are crap...but iv seen some hot setups running those!.
Im happy i went with the low et's as the wide stance looks good, originally we went with 35 all round...but they didnt make them in that combo so had to go low.
what happened with the Kw's??

hahaha,
most likely could!!!,the fronts have insane amounts of room though...the spokes arent the issue i think its where they meet the rim that has made them go with the big disk!...might get the GT BBK kit one day....said that about the Turbo last year too;)

Well glad to hear you got some money re emburssed.. those must have been expensive wheels. but I know someone that is maybe buying some WORK vsxx wheels for his Z3 M contvert, $3100 us brand new. so not too bad rice for high quality wheels.
damn dude!!.. not out of the garage yet!!.. well 3rd set of pistons is the charm.. isnt that what they say!.. why is it taking so long for them to get it right? whats wrong this time?
well that sucks that no more fab this year.. but good on ya for the house. and building a house from scratch?!!.. nice nice mang. good luck with that, when will ya know if you are building?
they look sick with the low ET's dude.. they look hot!
well I ended up getting the right adjusters form KW for the rear.. but since it was so close to the cold weather I decided to hold off and do the install of the springs and perches next year. I have the KW adjustable shocks in now.. they are freakin awesome.. Id recommend them. although theya rent sold seperatly.
get the header fabed up yet? intake manifold done?
Yeh dont get me going about the pistons!!,lol...they maybe here this weekend so the engine could be back in by the following week, but it make no odds...without any fab work being done(including intake manifold and exhaust) its likely it will sit in the same postion but with half an engine for the next few months at least!
should know tonight if we get the land im about to put a second offer in...all going well should start contruction in three months...that will kill any plans for a BBK for a while:)
Good they got you the right ones...did they send you ones from another model?

lol. okay, fair enough. i wont get you started on the pistons!!
still aolt of work to be done though. too bad you couldnt get her finished.. but the extra time will hopefully ensure quality work.. and a better outcome of the finished car.
cool.. so what sie a house you looking to build if you get the land? as big a your last house or larger?
lol.. well a house is more important then a BBK.. you cant live in a BBK!! plus the brakes would just be sitting there a rotting away anyway with no engine to move the car!
Yeh.. they never mentioned to me what the problem was on their part.. but they must have sent me erches for another model car or somehting. they just corrected the problem by sending me the right ones.. well hopefully.. I havent had a chance to check to make sure they are right!!
but according to them they are the right ones.

Yeh man for sure the finished product should be good!...as long as the guy who does my fab can still do it next year!...its complicated.
well after two weeks of planning the buy it looks like the building has been put off, dude wanted waaaaay to much for this piece of land then the agent dikd me round too,i offered what it was worth compared with other sales of similar land in the area, anyways looking for the full package today...not as big as last time though dont need the morgage, though i miss the big garage and views:)
haha hope the whole car hasnt rotted before the engine moves it again!
weather over your way sure can be a pain!,i'd want my flashy suspension in right NOW!!
Pistons havent turned up yet(sat today) so next week it is!...lol
