im wondering if anybody else make a cold air intake for their W202. if you have any suggestions to what i should fix or get, let me know. http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f211/mike1mac15/DSCN3964.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f211/mike1mac15/DSCN3959.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f211/mike1mac15/DSCN3960.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f211/mike1mac15/DSCN3963.jpg http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f211/mike1mac15/DSCN3962.jpg

I went to a performance shop in my area and i bought a bunch uf used 3" intakes for cheap ( fitted them and what not...made my plans with the parts they had), then i figured out how many Furncos I needed. I cut, fit, cut and fitted all these pipes. this is a C 280 and when you take the top of the factory intake off theres 2 bolts sticking up...i drilled holes in the piping to make the kit sit in place and oviously have clearance to close the hood.
the pipes were in a bunch of colors, so i brushed them and then painted them off black to make it look like its somewhat suppost to be there. Its make a hell of a differance and a nice sound...when ever i press the gass people look over and look at me weird. lol i also work a Benz Stealership and the TEC's were pretty impressed.

**All i did was mimic the stock sytem( at the top or the block)**

total in parts:
3" piping - $50
furncos- about $7 EACH
AEM bypass valve $60
2x breathers- $11 EACH

time it took me: FOREVER!!, but it was worth it!

If anyone has any ideas of what else i should or can do to give this car some balls, let me know.
so far im thinking exaust, turbo, and now supposidly there are some pulleys coming out. BUT money is an issue...im only 18 and on a college budget.

pretty good amount of work, and the air flow looks very direct. great job!

if you were wanting to pull every bit of efficiency out of it, you could convert the whole setup to silicon to keep the incoming air temp down (doesn't absorb as much under-hood heat like the rubber will).

do you mean silicon furncos / cupplings?

is there any air flow sensors? looks like something I could do, if you say its worth it!

yea, there the one with the cable coming from it and where it would be in your stock system.

I need to have my whole intake redone.

it got destryoed in the snow along with my front bumper so I need new pipe and filter, where would you guys recomend getting the pipe from ?? 3" diameter.

yep, the bypass valve acts as another filter...went the main filter is submerged under water the bypass valve takes over and instead of sucking in water the bypass valve is forced to take air in. I.E. Hopefully no water( in my opinion you always take a risk with water getting in your engine, but with a bypass there is less risk)

and to answer :

go on ebay...look for used parts. parts of mine are from a honda intake. or better yet visit a performance shop and see if they have used stuff...it may be cheaper that way.

from personal experiance - I took my car out in snow/huge puddles of mud/off-roading few days ago, I had the CAI setup and no Bypass valve ... still , no water made it up the the MAF.

I am not going to buy the AEM Bypass valve .

I have a question to ask: How can i get better flow into the engine bay? is it possible to remove that circle part between the headlight and the grill? What about at the bottom of the bumper where the air is lead up to the box ? is there anything i should remove? going to isntall my intake this weekend..

looks pritty good but yet still quite factory. nice work their mike!
did you think it made any hp improvement? or was it just the nice custom intake sound that fooled you?
nice tidy job none the less

great setup, looks awesome... kudos. Did you see an improvement in mpg?

mike mac

i found it to have a little better MPG on long drives i can get 330 miles doing about 70 if i really tried. but most of the time i get between 280- 300 miles(i push my car alot).

and to answer any HP gains...benz techs tell me i can maybe get a little but we are messing with the wrong engines, allthough the car does seem to be more peepy, and yes there is a sweet sound. some people look the car kinda weird when i pass by cause of the sound.

It actually sounds very good... Is the only exhaust mod the Magnaflow muffler, or did you do other stuff to the exhaust?

all i did was cut the muffler with the piping about 4 inch's from the resonator (before the 1st hanger) ... from there i had new 2.5 piping bent to the muffler...the muffler has a 3 inch inlet.

i bought the muffler at PeP Boys for like $85 and bought tips to go with it....i had it done the next day at Meineki for $150.

i feel its a bit more peppy, more than when i just had the CAI. now i have the CAI and the exaust. all my friends are like it ( the only thing i dont like is its loud inside, but what do u expect)

i know its not a full cat - back, but im happy with it, just saving up for a new resonator from supersprint cause on mine the piping( what ever is left of it) is rusting.

I see... Is your exhaust alot louder than your CAI at about 4000rpm at full throttle? (trying to get an idea of how loud it is)
