When I installed this, my engine was pretty hot so when I tested it, I guess you couldn't "feel" much out of it. Over the week when I drove it cold, I can feel better response when I step on the gas. I don't have to press too much now. Also, you can hear a nice throaty sound when your in the 4-5k RPM range. Overall, I'm happy with it but I'd really like a cold air better. The intake gets kinda hot after a day of driving!

And yes, I know it does suck in hot air.. But I don't drive the car long enough to have really hot air. Mostly drive about less than 1hr a day, multiple trips, meaning the car can cool down before the next.

Also, if you happen to buy this. There was a problem I ran into. They gave me (1) 2.5" to 3" Coupler and (1) 3" Coupler which the 2.5" to 3" Coupler did not fit onto the MAF. I needed a 3" Coupler to fit so I called Weapon R and they happily replaced it at their shop. And also the bracket that they include has no where to be mounted (from what I can see..) So that is why the intake is hanging low in the pics. I will be making a bracket to lift it up 2 inches or so..

Enjoy.

Other than the fact that its a HAI (Hot air intake), it looks pretty good but what in the world is that peice inside the pipe. Seems like it is just restricting flow if I am not mistaken. I would take that out and just run it without that inner tube.

just out of curiosity sake, can you take a picture from the other angle looking at the intake from the engine side pointint to the front passenger headlight. I'd like to see what openings there are incase one would like to route and exhaust down there. thanks

I think Weapon*R calls it the Velocity Stack.
"The Secret Weapon Intake was designed, to increase air intake volume to the engine. The concept is to create two different air velocity profiles, one traveling at higher speeds than the other. This technology increases air volume and speed to the engine, which naturally feeds the engine 3x more air than the conventional air intake system. The intake pipe is bent out of high quality 6061 Aluminum on our Automated CNC mendrel bender. Polished to a high show quality finish. The SW1 Air filter features a tuned velocity stack to increase velocity and decrease turbulence. Only Comes In Polished. 1 Million Mile Limited Warranty Open pore high density re-usable foam Over 250 applications for Car’s / Trucks / Suv’s" - Copied from http://www.weapon-r.com/cgi-bin/test/store/agora.cgi?cart_id=3311742.8020*ah6nC4&p_id=654&xm=on&ppinc=search2

Not sure what you mean but I will try to take multiple shots in case. I'll post up when I'm not very busy.

that second piece of pipe is supposed to accelerate air through the intake even more, according to weaponR.

hmmm, sounds like a marketing gimic, but interesting theory. I wonder if anyone has actually done dyno to prove that.

on their website, if you look they make a heat sheild, a ram air box that you can mount any were, it has a tube that connectsa to th lip at the very end of the filter, so theoreticly you could make it a cai., anf6789

it makes sense to me, kind of like secondary intake runners.

Which brings me to my question....I have the v6, and i fabbed up an intake a few months ago. It is actually really fucking great, it's 3" pvc pipe and a 45* bend, the filter has a "heat sheild" around it, and is pointed exactly where the factory intake sucks up air, from inbetween the R headlight and the grille.

Anyhow, my question is, does the v6 have secondary intake runners, imrc, or, variable valves, or anything like that?
I have a nice deep sound in the lower rpms, but once i hit 4-5k, another beast is unleashed and the sound gets very loud, very aggressive, and the car starts to pull pretty hard (compared to stock).

I was thinking of using one those Heat Shield Wraps to wrap the pipe. Does this actually work?

your car does have variable length intake runners. this feature first appeared on M104's(as far as I know).

looks good, let us know how you mod this to make it work better, I always wanted an intake but had no idea how to make one that has real gains...

97C28O, im thinking of doing the same mod to my c280, but i was wondering does the MAF/MAS pipe suck in air all by itself or does it wait for air to enter it via the airbox holes? what i mean to say is if you cover up your grille hole and just let your car suck in only hot air will that damage your engine? the part i dont understand with these WAI intakes is that the cone isnt directly connected to the tube in the grille hole, so doesnt the cold air that enters just scatter around the cone filter? or does the filter suck most of it up before it dissipates? the reason im asking so many questions is that once i commit to doing this mod i dont want to damage my engine or ecu os something and get that damn check engine light or get the check engine light to turn on or the car might start shaking. im just concerned whether these warm air intakes give the engine enough air to work properly. i would ask mercedes if its ok to install aftermarket cone filter but they'll tell me the same thing that this stuff wasnt built for the w202 so it'll mess it up. basically i wanted to know how this type of intake affects the engine in any adverse way, thanks for your experience on this

Mmmmm hot air...

Btw, kudos, that is probably the single cleanest 'stock' looking 104 motor I have ever seen.
