I've heard some potentially good news last week, a guy I know who has some experience with MB said to me that the C180 engine is actually a C220 only with different motormanagement. he said that one of the differences is in the amount of fuel injected and that it can be altered! Is there anyone who knows this and can confirm this? It would be great to have more hp, this C180 is a bit underpowered :)

ur reply's will be appreciated

Considering one is a 2.2L & the other is a 1.8L, he is wrong there.

Always remember, more fuel doesnt always mean more power(just more fuel consumption). Ofcourse it can be altered. ANY ECU can be altered, you just have to know how to do it.

is the 1.8L the same engine type as 2.3? you might want to look into this and do a engine swap if tranny and other members of the car allows.

I am trying to get some more info from the guy who gave me the info in the first place. I too found it hard to believe. I was beginning to think it was possible to change some settings, like fuel and chip, maybe put a SC on it and then have some more power. I know its not the best engine to create a faster one but...

Have been looking for another engine, being a C36 but havent been able to get it so far..

I dunno whether the 230 is the same type of engine!

When I have some more info I'll post it.

Thx

C180 and C200/230 are not the same engines. Kompressor or not. the 2.0lt and 2.3lt unkompressed are the same type with the kompressed ones, but even then, almost all of the "inside" is different. You cant turn a regular engine into an MB kompresssor just by installing the kompressor and ECU by itself. There is a thread here somewhere where a guy even listed the things that are different between the 2 motors, if you re lucky you might be able to find it. The best thing to do is to buy a totalled C36 AMG and convert.

Well this is the info he came up with, it doesnt say anything about the C220 but it looks like the C200 and C180 are indeed the same engines! The volume, stroke and cilindervolume are the same. Take a look at this, its official MB literature.

What are your thoughts?[

it's all the M111 block. i think the only changes are the pistons themselves, and the kompressor models probably have a stronger crank.

to do the actual upgrade to add the kompressor would take a lot more work i'm sure than simply changing the pistons out. however, if you can somehow verify that the 180 and the 200 are in fact identical internals, you could definatelly go the FI route fairly easily

You can keep you tranny etc etc etc!

That's right my good friend NEA said...
I've bought a new 2.2 block and i'm gathering parts to install all together!
