I have searched and have not found an answer. I have a 95 c220 with oil comming out of the oil filter housing. I have purchased a new plastic housing and that doesnt work either. The O ring seems to kink and the oil seeps out profusly. I recently switched to Mobil1 0-40 from 5w30 previously. Not sure what is causing the leak. Please help.

is it leaking from the filter cap's o-ring or the filter housing gasket between the housing and the engine block?

Yes, it is leaking from the area between the housing and the O ring. I have made sure the filter is tight enough using the tool to tighten the housing. Does the different viscosity cause it to leak more? I did have a little leak for the past few months but now, there is a lot of oil comming out as soon as the engine is started.

the viscosity shouldnt be the problem. there should be a tight seal once you tighten the cap. inspect the cap for damage, there might be a piece that chipped off or the thread on the housing might be damaged so it cuts the o-ring when you are tightening the cap.

There was a guy on the benzworld.org forums that said that his car would leak oil from where yours is if he put the O ring with the oil filter. He claimed that if he didnt use the ring it wouldnt leak anymore:ermm:
