View Full Version : Knoking when braking in reverse??

I get a hard knock coming from the front (wheels? suspension?) when I am in reverse and braking. Sounds kind of like a clunk, and it only happens once when I brake in reverse. No noise when in drive and braking.

I thought it may be the struts, but when in park I've pushed on the fenders up and down and does not clunk.

Any thoughts?

I have had this since I got the car and also Ive had my ball joints (lowers I think..) and steering shock done by MB, but yet I still hear a clunk when manovering in reverse???
Should I be taking my car back and demanding to know what the hell is going on ?

I'm Utterly pissed if I have to get more costly work done, theyve had my car on the ramps more then once and did the work I mentioned, so really my car should of come back with moreless perfect running gear.

I think I have the awnser, if you have this metal clack, clunk, click
noisie (the terrible C's) ;D.. when you reverse, and you are sure its not possible to be the ball joints, other suspension component, then you can safely know it is meerly brake chatter.

"Brake noise characterized by chatter, clunking, or clicking."
"Soft brake pads and flexible light weight calipers invite squeal and
chatter, chatter being the mechanically more detrimental version of
stick-slip behavior. Brake chatter is caused by gummy residue on the
rim together with excessively flexible (skimpy dimensioned) brake
calipers. Rims can be cleaned but flexible brakes can only be fixed
by using better brakes. If the rim becomes gummy again after
cleaning, then either the rims are being contaminated by something like riding through tar weed or the pads are " - Jobst Brandt

so its the calipers are needing some luv..

quickfit should of diagnosed something like that in my opinon but thats why I'm unlikly to use them again..
