Hi all.

After having visited more than 3 different mechanics, I, myself, found the source of the noise comming from under the engine compartement.

I have this whine/whiste, and it stops when I touch the clutch ever so lightly - but it is an annoying noise and I want to get rid of it.

Is it a clutch-bearing or what, and what wil the repair appx set me back.

Thanks, Christian.

Hi,

if its a whine.... it may be the thrust bearing...but that will usually make a noise when you push the clutch pedal...

if theres a squeak it could also be dry areas on the thrust lever which contact the pivot ball, thrust bearing and slave cylinder arm...these areas require a small amount of lube(the right stuff for the job)...otherwise they make a heap of squeak when your foot is not touching the clutch pedal.

As i found when i took mine into MB for the exact same issue...they were about to change the entire belt system and tensioner for around 550...they had no idea.

if you do end up removing the gearbox, replace the pilot bearing in the flywheel as well.
