First of all, I would like to say how helpful this forum has been. It's rare to find a forum with such dedicated members.

A little background:
I own a 1999 C230 Kompressor without the bose system
I have an Alpine CDA-9856
I own, but have yet to install Polk Audio DB6500 components

Now, on to my questions:

1. The stock speakers have their own crossover, so where do I cut into the speakers to bypass that for the new crossover? I need some general direction here.

2. I want to buy an amplifier, but I also want to keep costs down. I've been told its fine to get a four channel amp, power the components with two channels, and bridge the other two for a single 12" subwoofer. I am considering an Audiobahn A6004V. If I did it this way, would I still be able to use my HUs separate subwoofer controls?

3. They dont fit according to crutchfield, but can I fit the polk audio DB400 in the rear doors?

Thank you.

Honestly if I were you, I'd rip out the current wiring and redo the wiring to accomodate your proposed set up.

The max size to fit in the rear doors are 5.25" with an adapter. You'll have to order it from the UK as I have not seen them for sale in the States.

I would suggest running your own wires to make this simpler. Also, if you are thinking to install an aftermarket amp, you might want to do all of this at once.

Looking at the picture, it looks like you have 4 channel input as well.
You need to have dedicated RCA that runs from your HU subwoofer output to the 2 channels that you want to run the subwoofer. I don't see why you can't control it this way.

I don't see why a 4" speaker will not fit the rear door.

Thank you very much.

Just one more question. I am trying to decide between two amps. One is the aformentioned Audiobahn A6004V. The second that I am considering is a Phoenix Gold R8.0:4. I am going to try to do the installation myself, but who knows how it will end up. Looking at the pictures of the Audiobahn, the connections seem very straightforward. When looking at the Phoenix Gold, it looks like the built in crossovers cannot be changed for the separate channels, but I dont think that could be so. I like how the PG has a better signal to noise ratio, but the bridged power on the Audiobahn fits my sub better. Here are the stats:

It looks like the audiobahn is more suitable for your needs.
The crossover is more flexible. assuming you want to run the rear channel for the subwoofer, you could set it to low pass filter.
