got my car back from the body shop (after 6 weeks - diff story). when i got it back the odometer was not reading correctly. in the lcd display each number is composed of lines as we all know. for some reason random lines have burnt out or something and no longer light up so it does not look like numbers but random lines.

l
l might look like l
l

my car is at 65k miles and im wounder if any one else has heard of this and if it is normal wear for our 202's

btw - i dont think this is not of the body shop's doing and my mechanic said its around $500-900 to fix.

One of the digits on my odometer disappears from time to time. I dont know what causes it but it seems to fade out when it is cold weather outside. I guess it's old age.

Search the archives. I know there is a post that discusses this and discusses a do-it-yourself procedure that has worked for people where you shim the connector.

Take it to a dealer and pitch a bitch, it's a very common problem not only with 202's but also 210's. The 220 just got a recall for a similar problem due to a class action law suit. If you take it to a dealer they may help you out with the replacement cost, like 50/50 or something. If you don't get anywhere with the dealer ask to talk to the factory rep.

It doesn't matter, whatever's easiest for you. If you come to Phil Smart, come back in the shop and say hi.

you can replace the LCD screen on the cluster, its about a 30 min job max.

u can? where can you get the LCD screen? the ribbons that connect to the circuit board are trashed! I tried to slice the plastic off and re use them but that was a no go.

this is a serious engineering mistake on Mercedes behalf and they could get their heads out of their ass and issue a recall

Agreed, the fault is in the ribbons and not the LCDs. I wish there were an easy replacement, but I have yet to find one. You can sometimes clip the ribbons down to the board, or tape them so they make the connection again, but it's 50/50 if it works.

How does that car have so much mileage on it? Didn't your cuz sell it to you with like 60,000 on the clock?

I guess the dealer where I got my car was not lying at all about the LCD screen. Although, in my case, after sometime of driving, everything gets back to normal and the numbers would read correctly.
