This past weekend I went and took a W140 for a test drive. I noticed that on that Bose stereo, when selection another source (i.e CD/TAPE/RADIO) or even changing the stations, the audio gently fades in and out so its not "sudden".

My W202 MY1999+ headunit doesnt seem to do this....is it programmable or does the pre 1999 non fibre optic units do this only?

Don't know if this relates but when my car battery was low, the volume of the radio and everything else was like that too. I noted that when i was stepping on the acceleration the volume seem to go up, when i slowed down it went lower. So every time i drove faster the volume would go up. I disconnected the battery and re entered it and entered the code and it worked like it was suppose to then later on it would start dying again. This was weird but when i got my MAF replaced they charged up the battery and all works now.

I believe you are referring to speed volume control. MB has had it for awhile, I had it in my 94 C280.

It is Pin A1 in this diagram. (http://www.club202.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=367&highlight=wiring+diagram)

Nope....the speed volume works on mine.

I was referring to changing a source on the deck...meaning pushing CD from listening to the radio. There is that transition the W140 had instead of the music suddenly muting, it "softly" faded and the CD as it started playing, faded in....this prevents it from blasting and making a sudden change.

Hmm that's something new that i learned. How come it doesn't work now? How do you activate it?

the w140 audio system was amazing.. such great quality sound.
but this fading in and out between selecting radio or cd or whatever is probably a feature built into the amp or something.

the fading is built into the head unit. The new Alpine's have this.. like the 52,56, and 59.

Yes, the W140 Bose Betta 11 speaker system is still amazing to this day.

This feature is probably just in the 140 and not the 202.
