Guys, i drive a 97 280. with Bose system. Recently car got diagnosted with a blown amp

suggested buying OEM amp from dealer which will cost at least a grand...

My question is that :
1. can i just get an aftermarket amp and replace it? and if so, will it ruin my sound system, or speak..etc?

2. does any similar model of amp work for my car? (the ones shown on ebay?)

for example http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MERCEDES-BENZ-W230-SL500-RADIO-AMPLIFIER-AMP-CD_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ38638QQihZ012QQitemZ 220079776209QQtcZphoto

what do u guys think i should do?? r those my only alternatives?

you can upgrade the amp, or probably just as easily buy a used oem bose amp. i wouldn't waste your time getting from the dealer; because if you wanted brand new you could also buy from bose directly for probably half of the cost.

if you dig through the forums a bit, someone recently posted about ordering replacement door speakers from bose directly, and they were fairly inexpensive.

Get the part # off the blown amp and call Bose with that number to order a replacement.
