It was early and my mother calls to say her battery is dead in her car so I go over and get out the cables to give it a jump. I'm in a hurry to get to work so as I am hooking up my battery I accidentally drop the other end of the cables and the power hit's the negative while I have the other end of the power already connected. I have my car running at the time and didn't think anything of it so I jumped it and went on my way. I go get gas and as I am driving to work, my check engine light comes on and my gas light starts blinking. I wasn't even thinking at the time that I had that incident with the battery, I was just thinking "what now?" So when I get to work I disconnect the battery for about an hour and I reconnect it and it seems fine. As I am driving home about 40 minutes later, the check engine light comes back on and the low fuel light starts blinking again. I stop and check the gas cap and it was loose so when I tightened it, the low fuel light stopped blinking for good but the check engine light is still on. I disconnected the battery again after that to see if maybe the problem was related and I haven't driven it yet so I don't know the outcome. Do you think the battery incident and the check engine light are connected? Was the loose gas cap and the check engine light connected? Was it a coincidence and the check engine light is on for some other reason? The car is running fine so I don't know what to check. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

it was most likely just the gas cap, if it comes back on it might be a fuel level sensor, at least that was the case with my car, in any case i doubt the battery incedent had anything to do with it

thanks for the input, it was the gas cap, funny though that when you tighten the cap there isn't something that tell the check engine light to go off. Maybe you guys can help me out with another problem. I read several threads about fixes with the switches and such but I hardly have time to remove the door and replace the switch. My passenger power seat back stopped working, the seat bottom and headrests still work. I was wondering if there is an override. Maybe a bolt I can turn or something to lift the seat back up. It got stuck way back when one of my friends was in the car and my girl keeps bitching about it. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,
John
