Hope someone can help me decipher the 4 wires at the back of my 97 C230 cigarette box. I see 1 brown, 1 red/blue, 2 black/blue. I need to splice into the wiring so I can get power for an electronic device. Thanks.

just follow the way they go ... two of them go to a light bulb and two go the the cig. lighter.
I spliced the two that go to the cig. lighter for my underdash lights.
this requires removal of the ashtray assembly.

Thanks for the reply. I followed the wires and with a multitester found out the following although still not 100% sure:
Red/Blue wire = +12Vdc (?)
Brown wire = GND
Black/Blue = ACC

For future reference, I'm pretty sure the Red/Blue is the Illumination wire. And the black/blue is the 12vdc. Brown is ground.
If you're tapping the cig lighter, I assume it's already on an Accessory-keyed fuse, thus there is no Accessory/Ignition line.
If you tap into the Red/Blue Illumination line, whatever you're plugging into the cig lighter will only turn on with your lights on.

the over all best way to get power for any device is at the ignition . i wouldn't suggest the fuse box since thats the noisest part of the car. being a professional installer for over 12 years i would suggest this. although catching the lighter may be ok make sure the device your hooking up have some type of fuse on it to protect your cars wiring
