Kragen/Checker/Schucks has on their current ad the NGK Iridium IX Spark Plugs for $1.99.

Reading from several forums, the company made a typo but some stores are honoring the price and some aren't. Just show them their own ad and chances are, the store will honor the price.

The Ad will expire on March 18. Will try to get some tomorrow. ;)

Cool! Too bad i just changed mines today! I had some starting problems before but now it starts up instantly! Also, I think the acceleration response improved. If its 1.99 thats a very good deal. I bought mines on ebay for 4.99 Each.

What are the benefits of fitting iridium plugs over OEM plugs?

It boils down to the type of metal used. Iridium is 6 times harder, 8 times stronger, conducts electricity better and has a way higher melting point compared to platinum (which is used in some OEM plugs). As a result of the qualities of the metal (higher melting point, hardness and strength), the center electrode is only 0.7mm reducing voltage requirement for spark. According to NGK, the plugs will improve acceleration and throttle response, will have better idle stability, mpg, high level ignition and low spark jump voltage.

Although the marketing is similar to those late night infomercials, NGK is a reputable company and spending $8, in my case, to improve performance in my car is justifiable. Unless, I spend the $8 to buy an Ebay HID Ultra Super Duper Blue lightbulb that will convert my halogen to HID lighting found on expensive cars. :p

Update: Just went to local Checkers Auto here and their Ad has the corrected price of $5.99 (still a good buy). Their online ad still shows the $1.99 price though. According to the store manager, they recevied a memo from Corporate not to give the discounted price. Anyone else here tried to get some at the $1.99 price?

WTF?

How can they list NGK IFR5D10 as $18.99 EACH? Holy crap even Mercedes here isnt that expensive. These are the plugs currently in the car & mercedes only quoted me $9.99 each... & they have them in stock.

If im not mistake thats true, because a hotter spark would make the engine run hotter i remember reading it some where on here. and the 202s are stupied picky when it comes to AM parts. even when it comes down the the brakes, cheap pads will make it skweeel like a pig about to get killed muhahahaha:mad:
