Smart Key

Is there any way to reprogram a smart key. I have another mercedes smart key that isn't for my car that was given to me bc my friends cars got totaled and i have a 1998 c280 with the same type of key But His FCC iD is different. Is there a way to make it work for my car. Did a search can find anything.

i believe when you get a new smartkey, the dealership takes your VIN and gives the key to you preprogrammed ... not sure if this means that the factory does it or the dealer does it, but maybe you can give them a call. if the dealer does it, then maybe they can reprog your spare.

here is what i know from my friends experience...reporgraming a smart key can be done, ...&...it works...now my friend reporgramed the original key that came with his w202 (the slightly larger smart key than the current ones...) about a year ago and the key still works no problems...

that i dont know...but what i know is that it works, this i am a 100 percent sure of....i dont know about legal issues...i dont know how its done (i am no specialist), but i do know that it can be done....
