I have a 97 W202 whose windscreen wipers have taken on a life of their own. I was told by one Merc chap that it was the combination relay but after changing this the problem is still there. If anyone could give me a pointer i'd be very greatful.
Thanks in advance.

Occasionally when driving along, the wipers would without warning, sweep once or maybe twice on my 1996 C36. I found that the relay that controlled the intermittant wiper function (not the normal slow/fast function) was the combination relay 202 820 46 26 on my car.
I pulled the relay, took off the cover and sprayed liberally with CRC switch cleaner. This has fixed the problem for now.
However, sometime down the track I am sure the problem will re-occur and will only be resolved with a new relay!

I put a new combination relay in it and it's still the same :(

The wipers are controlled by the selection on the indicator stalk on the steering wheel and powered through relays.
You said you have changed the combo relay, so the next step is to try isolate the problem to the "other relay" that controls the wipers on the slow/fast setting or the indicator selector having some sort of short circuit in the wiper switching selection mechanism?
